This is a collaboration between HTC VIVE, XRHealth, and Nord Space ApS. Using #vr aims to improve stress management and help with isolation by creating natural environments that astronauts are used to on Earth. 🌎 OVERVIEW EFFECT OF THE WEEK 🌎 We had such a great time talking all things VR with Overview Effect proponent Dr. Annahita Nezami, on last month’s #HOOP, that we thought we’d take this week’s OE of the Week to shout out her VR program, Earthscape VR. While we LOVE sending as many people to space as we can, not needing to become an astronaut to experience the Overview Effect, is a really handy thing, and we’re all for it! Thanks to Earthscape VR, you can immerse yourself in a virtual reality simulation that recreates aspects of this amazing phenomenon. Earthscape VR uses state-of-the-art VR technology, soundscapes, and psychological principles to give you a fully immersive experience of being in space. You will see Earth as a whole, without borders or boundaries, and feel a new perspective on your place in the cosmos. Now that we think of it, we should have asked for a session… for research purposes. 6 months in space – what an experience! 👨🚀 Andreas Mogensen is coming back to Earth today, after half a year on the #internationalspacestation . Flying to space is an experience only a handful of people can experience now, but what if there was a way to experience the flight, like Andreas Mogensen? 🚀   We have created a virtual reality experience of flying inside a capsule, recreating the flight from the International Space Station back to Earth. Andreas Mogensen himself took part in the project and is one of the astronauts that is with you inside of the Russian Soyuz capsule (which is recreated 1:1). Of course, all the people who tried the experience returned safely to Earth. 🌍 Want to know more? Virtual Reality is going to space! As if space wasn't cool enough already! HTC, in conjunction with NASA, is sending a VR headset to the International Space Station to test out whether it can be used to alleviate stress and help with mental health. Space can be stressful! Astronauts on the ISS deal with a very demanding job in a very cramped and crowded space, not to mention that they are far away from their loved ones. As someone who works a lot with VR, I can say for certain that total immersion can be a great tool to relax and destress! It takes a lot of money to send things to space ($20k per kilo +-), so there is a lot of backing behind this project! Interestingly enough, they had to specifically design a Vive Headset so that it would work in microgravity. This is a big win for VR! #VirtualReality #MentalHealth #Simfinity #Space #Stress
