Sharing this video for Earth Day. I'm currently reading through Hannah Ritchie's book, "Not The End of the World", but is best summarized in the TED talk below. In it, Hannah looks at the data and argues that we have the opportunity to be the world's first truly sustainable generation. Well worth a watch. "Sustainability gives us the shelf to rethink the way we do things". https://lnkd.in/eKJHw5TV

Eco-anxiety amongst students is a real concern for teachers. How do teachers overcome the sense of hopelessness that students experience when engaging on the topic of climate change and sustainability? Environmental data scientist Hannah Ritchie digs into the numbers behind human progress and develops our understanding of sustainability. She argues that conventional understanding of sustainability is misleading and shows how we can be the first generation of humans to actually achieve it. What do you think? Are we doomed or will we be the first generation to achieve sustainability? #SustainabilityCitizenship #EcoAnxiety #EnvironmentalData #thereisnoplanetb https://lnkd.in/eR4CZF9u

Over 1 million viewers in just two weeks! You have to watch our amazing CEO Manjula Lee in “3 letters that will save the planet”. The argument that we are in a climate crisis, and we should only focus on the E 'Environment'; therefore, ESG should be boiled down to one simple measure: Emissions, is already very old school in the sustainability world. Understand the sustainability challenges and the changes needed in our thinking that will truly make a difference for our planet and all of us here! I don’t know anybody that can say it in a simplier and clear way, such a simple concept that somehow became so complex! Let’s take it back to simple and take action! #Sustainability #ClimateCrisis #esg

It's been an enlightening week to say the least. The Climate Drift Accelerator program introduced to me Hannah Ritchie and her incredible outlook on global sustainability and how it's not all doom and gloom, but we must act (in very manageable ways) to continue to make progress and avoid further (and possible total) destruction. Watch Hannah Ritchie's inspiring talk on global sustainability here and check out her book "Not the End of the World": https://lnkd.in/ejha8AXP

🌍 Optimism + Pragmatism = Sustainable Future 🌱 In the midst of so many doom & gloom predictions and reports, Hannah Ritchie is just what I needed! Her TED talk filled me with hope and agency. She highlights the power of optimism and practical solutions. Hannah is a 31 year old [Genius] data scientist from Scotland, with a BSc in Environmental Geoscience, an MSc in Carbon Management, and a PhD in GeoSciences from the University of Edinburgh. 🧠🤯🤯 Her research focuses on 'the assessment of global food systems and their capacity to address malnutrition and environmental sustainability simultaneously. She also publishes on the global energy system, climate change, biodiversity, and global health.' Her presentation was a refreshing blend of optimism and pragmatic realism, supported by solid data. “I’m a Data Scientist…according to data on all levels, no, this is not the end of the world.” Whew 😰Thank Goodness! My last two therapists tell me that they admire how quickly I’ve trained my brain to ‘reframe’ everything on a positive and optimistic spin and no doubt that has served me well throughout my life. BUT (...you knew that was coming) that superpower could also be my own kryptonite. Maybe. I understand that this mindset might have its limitations. But here's the thing – what's the alternative? Sulking in misery won't help anyone. So yes, I choose optimism any day. It's always great to see professionals like her, who are not only skilled in their field but also dedicated to raising awareness about important global issues. This also reminds me of the wonderful work of data-driven thinkers like Lancelot F. James, Joon Nak Choi and Prof Carlos Fernández-Loría at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, HKUST Business School. I hope we are inspiring all this brilliant minds to use their incredible brainpower to tackle challenges and make a positive impact. Because we need it. The world need it and it's better for everyone. #Sustainability #Optimism #Pragmatism #ClimateAction #datascientist #dataanalytics #esg #growthmindset

In this week’s edition of #WhatOnEarth, Liselotte Hohwy Stokholm, CEO at the think tank Ocean Institute (Tænketanken Hav), offers a crucial piece of advice to both Danish and international environmental authorities: “Start thinking and acting like businesses”. In the corporate world, adaptation to reality and agile strategy shifts are the norm to tackle new challenges. Yet, in the realm of authorities and politics, there is often a tendency to rely on lengthy, rigid plans. However, as we know, nature doesn't always adhere to our timelines. Liselotte Hohwy Stokholm emphasizes the importance of celebrating small victories along the way, acknowledging that none of us may see the monumental changes we are striving for in our lifetime. But these incremental steps are crucial for the well-being of our planet and future generations. 🌊🌏 In this series of articles from Planetary Responsibility Insights, leaders from major environmental organizations will give their answers to nine vital questions on how we can reshape business practices for a more harmonious relationship with nature. Read or listen to the full article in Planetary Responsibility Insights and learn more. Link in comments👇 #WhatOnEarth #MarineEnvironment #BlueTransition #PlanetaryResponsibilityInsights #PRF

8moCouldn't agree more! Fresh produce, clean energy, and low-polluting transport have to be cheaper, easier to access, and opportunistic, rather than sacrificial.
