Last night, I had the privilege of speaking at DisruptHR Tucson and Phoenix and despite a few technical hiccups (yes, my video played a few surprises and I may have dropped a few f-bombs despite a plan for being a bit more demure and mindful😂), I had an absolute blast! My talk took a bold approach: challenging the notion that sex and work should always be separate. The truth is, the same ingredients that fuel a great sex life - honest communication, clarity about desires, and a willingness to ask for what you want - are just as essential in creating a thriving work life. It’s time we get better at asking for what we need at work and building environments that truly fulfill us. The HR profession, in particular, is facing a crisis. We’re burning out faster than ever, feeling overwhelmed, and leaving the profession at an alarming rate. But maybe if we get more intentional about our desires and boundaries - whether in life or work - we can shift that narrative. Let’s build workplaces where people feel empowered to say what they need and create the work lives they deserve. Nothing bothers me more than people in positions of power, feeling like they can bring their biased personal views, into managing their teams. What really concerns me is employees facing discrimination, having no way to express their uncomfortable situation.
