AN HR PERSECTIVE ON RUGBY – DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
(South Africa versus Australia – 10 Aug 2024)
If you are still wondering about the power of Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace, look at the South African Rugy Team. A team united and at the top of their game, despite race, class, backgrounds and ethnicity. As I watched the rugby game this morning, I was in awe of the Springboks display of skill, expertise, technical competence, strategy and the will to win, as they went on to a 33-7 victory against the Wallabies. Diversity and inclusion are not just ethical imperatives; they are strategic advantages that drive innovation and growth. Research shows that organizations with diverse teams are 35% more likely to outperform their peers in terms of financial returns. By fostering an inclusive culture, companies can tap into a broader range of perspectives and ideas, propelling creativity and problem-solving. Furthermore, diverse workplaces enhance employee satisfaction and retention, with studies indicating that diverse teams are more engaged and collaborative. By creating an inclusive environment, organizations not only benefit economically but also cultivate a workforce that is resilient, dynamic, and capable of meeting the challenges of a global market. The greatest lesson we can take away from the Springbok Team is diversity and inclusion is a game changer. The simple truth is, you get to choose the best of the best, for your company, from a far bigger pool of talent if diversity and inclusion is a strategic pillar within your organisation.
