Be empathetic, they say. Be flexible, they say. Be human, they say. Yes. But - it's not enough. You also have to know. Know what it's like when someone dies. Know what to say and what not to say. Know what to do. Know your action plan. Framework. Playbook. Something. As an HR leader, here's three things you can do today: - Find a 30-60 minute manager 101 on death and grief - Create a quick spreadsheet of things that HR and managers need to do or consider, every time, when a teammate suffers a loss - Build a quick re-entry plan that includes clarity on any changes in schedule, assigned work, and evaluation.
