National Small Business Week kicks off today! This week we celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit and innovation that are the heartbeat of America. It's also a time to honor all the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDCHQ) certified MBEs for their achievements. U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) unveiled the Fiscal Year 2023 Procurement Scorecard, revealing a record-breaking $178.6 billion in federal contracts awarded to small businesses. This accounts for 28.4% of all contracting dollars. The value of federal contracts granted to minority-owned businesses increased by $8.1 billion from 2022 to 2023. The House Committee on Small Business has unanimously advanced H.R. 7988, the "Small Business Procurement and Utilization Reform Act." The bill would require the SBA's annual small buisness scorecard to consider: "The number of new small business entrants, including new small business entrants that are small business concerns owned and controlled by service-disabled veterans, qualified HUBZone small business concerns, small business concerns owned and controlled by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals, and small business concerns owned and controlled by women awarded prime contracts in each North American Industry Classification System code during the fiscal year, and a comparison to the number awarded prime contracts during the prior fiscal year, if available[.]" https://lnkd.in/gYQi_BZz
