Class 4 G&H RBI Leading Voice in UK Building Control working to keep you the right side of the Regs, and to avoid another Grenfell. Contact me for Building Control services on your next project.
If you have a complex/non standard project you may find it difficult to find a class 3 Inspector. Whilst we look on course for 3500 inspectors the vast majority will be class 1 come 6th by look of things. That’s still 1000 less than HSE thought and a fraction of the number needed depending on how you define “non-standard” https://lnkd.in/ep3qnyEF

Picture: The jobsite foreman monitors some rework on rough grade preparation. Do you consider jobsite integration when communicating your solution to contractors, commercial builders, or independent machine owner-operators? In reflecting as these houses are being built in front of us, I have noticed a lot of interactions between contractors, suppliers, municipalities, land owners, and surrounding neighbours. As much as there are various tools, equipment, and technologies being used, the common thread is 'seamless' integration. Integration between coworkers Integration between machines and people Integration between technologies Integration with suppliers and contractors Integration with land surveyors, inspectors, and QA with contractors Integration between land owners and contractors Integration between municipality departments and land owners Integration means a flow of information (or data, if you prefer) that needs to deliver or communicate an outcome to «insert any audience» #brandnarrative #jobsiteintegration #suppliers #contractors #landowners #municipalitydepartments #constructionindustryinnovation #OEMintegration #surveyors #QA #communication #collaboration #feedback #onthejobfeedback

A word about work inspection The purpose of work inspection is to spot non-compliance of work, period. There is nothing more important in the duty and responsibility of construction supervision than this aspect of the work. Non-compliance comprises many things which may include work done not in accordance with the IFC drawings and specification, issues related to quality, safety or any work carried out in a manner that violates the contractual requirements. Hence, the inspector’s job is not always a pleasant job. In fact being nice and tendency to be agreeable and popular is ineffective and discouraged. The correct adjectives should be standfast and firm to the contractor with your finding/observation supported by references and think of the many more hours you will need to spend with them in future. I have inspectors/colleagues who did their job professionally who are productive and play an important role in the project and others who are not so productive but who are very nice people to be with. It makes one wonder what makes a good inspector?

I have a question that I often get asked and would appreciate your experience in your field. How important do feel it is to have experience in the trades that you inspect? my number one priority is to be able to find solutions on the job site to keep the project moving. For example I had 24yrs in the construction industry before becoming an inspector. should all inspector be required to have a minimum amount of experience before qualifying for there job? Or is passing a test just as important?

Where’s your hard hat? Why is it so difficult on jobsites today to get trades and site visitors (such as inspectors!) to wear a hardhat? Signs are everywhere, fines are imposed, and OSHA requires it. So why is this most basic safety precaution so often ignored? Check out this week’s blog post on the matter and weigh in. #safety #jobsite #quality #homebuilding https://lnkd.in/eeXeAFYH

How many speclialist contractors out there are carrying out quality checks and offering the work up to be signed off by there client before proceeding to the next stage ? We have this on all our jobs and it’s a simply form to be carried out at specific junctions. However we have seen a rise in a minority of clients refusing to sign off any works or put pen to paper at fear of it coming back to haunt them ? The signing of such quality assurance sheets does not negate our responsibility to carry out the works as specified it’s just a record . This is leading to more and more disputes . Any other specialist contractors having to deal with the same ? #groundworks #construction #carpentry

Equipment & materials of approx. 500 pounds Design scaffold according to OSHA weight capacity guidelines if the scaffold length is 7 ft & width is 4 ft. Will it be light, medium, or heavy duty? Keep in mind that scaffold materials you will use building this scaffold will have rated capacity & the sum of rated capacity of scaffold components must be able to support live load requested by operations team. List down scaffold components & their rated capacity you will use here such as scaffold tubes, runner, bearer, planks. #scaffold #safety #scaffoldsafety
