Guillaume Faroux, Investment Director, and Partner at Vauban Infrastructure Partners, recently participated in a panel discussion at the opening of the Infra Summit during the 2024 edition of IPEM Paris. The discussion centered on one of the most dynamic sectors in today’s market: Infrastructure, with the theme “The Hottest Segment.” "In the current context we are seeing strong appetite for infrastructure investment in particular for the core segment, which is seeing the strongest repricing, fueled by ever-growing investment requirements in the decarbonization and the digitalization of our economies." With around €10 billion in assets under management, Vauban Infrastructure Partners continues to focus on the European mid-market core infrastructure sector. This sector is experiencing growing appeal due to ongoing repricing dynamics and shifting investment needs. Additionally, for investors, its reputation as a 'safe haven' is further solidified by its monopolistic attributes, robust correlation with inflation, and ability to withstand broader economic fluctuations.

TAF is pleased to announce our recent investment in IFM Investors #NetZero Infrastructure Fund 👉 https://lnkd.in/gRtvPPVH Here’s what Tracy A Haynes, Investor Partnerships Manager, had to say about how this investment supports a #LowCarbon economy: “Infrastructure Investments are usually large-scale projects that provide an essential service to a community. The benefit of investing in this asset class comes from often high-level and relatively stable revenues. Most infrastructure has a low correlation to other asset classes which adds the benefit of total portfolio diversification. We liked the intentionality of IFM to operate an impact fund and the alignment with our endowment mandate of reducing carbon and air pollution. Through IFM, in addition to the traditional benefits of infrastructure investing, TAF’s capital will support renewable power generating assets, power the electrification of the grid, advance the development of low carbon alternative fuels, and press forward on carbon capture and storage solutions. We'd like to see other funds follow IFM's example, so considerations becomes a market standard." #ImpactInvesting

Investing in Energy Infrastructure Opportunities: ARETE’s Perspective At ARETE, we believe in a disciplined and thoughtful approach to investing in Energy Infrastructure, emphasizing a deep understanding of underlying assumptions. Below, we outline suggested best practices that embody our beliefs: -> Trust with verification: exercise caution with forecasts Advisor forecasts should be approached with scrutiny. Profitable assets and businesses often attract increased competition and political attention. Business plans that assume the current environment will persist over the long term should be met with scepticism. It is essential to ensure that assets have robust mitigants in place for the worst-case scenarios. -> The power of honesty in investment strategy A candid assessment of competitive advantages is important, especially when navigating fashionable sectors. True advantages often stem from sector expertise, strong industry relationships, or synergies with existing portfolio companies. “Probably the largest aggregate losses are suffered by people who invest over-enthusiastically in a basically sound company.” Generating alpha is contingent on how much more value you can extract from an asset compared to a competent competitor. Investors without such an edge risk underperformance in increasingly competitive markets. -> Structuring partnerships with care For investors lacking the expertise or resources to operate a business independently in a specific sector, finding the right partner can be beneficial. It is important to be cautious of partnerships’ structures to avoid misalignment of interests. An investor may end up overpaying for an investment due to a poorly structured deal, where there are value leakages to partners, even if the initial price appears reasonable. Contact ARETE to gain further understanding of how to implement investment strategies in infrastructure. #ARETE #EnergyInfrastructure #AssetManagement #SecularTailwinds #ValueAdd
