Article 12 of the Animal Protection Law (2004) provides that the slaughter of animals will be carried out, considering religious requirements, without frightening or startling the animal, in the least painful manner possible and as quickly as possible. The Government of Turkey is urged to mandate the humane slaughter of all farm animals. Animals should be instantaneously rendered unconscious and insensible to pain and distress prior to slaughter. Today, there is growing consensus amongst religious authorities worldwide that pre-slaughter stunning is compatible with religious principles. Humane halal slaughter allows for the animal to be temporarily rendered unconscious via stunning prior to slaughter, as long as the animal's skull remains intact and the animal would regain consciousness in time should slaughter not occur. Therefore, animals should be unconscious before being bled, and no further processing should occur until irreversible loss of consciousness is confirmed. The responsibility for different types of animals currently falls under multiple Ministries and Departments. The Government of Turkey is recommended to align all animal welfare under one Ministry, with appropriate resources for research, implementation and enforcement. The Governme…

Over 3 million sheep 🐑 are exported every single year from the EU to non-EU countries! 🚚 Sheep are the most transported mammals out of the EU and suffer in unbearable ways on long, exhaustive journeys by road and sea. They do not deserve this‼️ Animals transported from the EU to third countries are often embarked on ships 🚢 that don’t even meet the European minimum legal requirements for animal welfare. Not only do they suffer on the long land journeys to the ports, but are then faced with extremely lengthy, torturous voyages across the sea. Furthermore, there are no time limits legally, meaning these animals suffer like this for days, weeks and even months. During hot months they are boiled alive on deck. The conditions are so terrible that thousands of animals do not make it to the destination. 💔 The ones that survive the torture are met only with cruel slaughter, where their necks are cut 🔪 and left to bleed out while fully conscious. Immediate measures and a change in the law are necessary to protect these poor animals! The Commission announced to publish a proposal for a new transport law for late this year. But has since been silent on whether this cruel trade will come to a standstill. Be their voice 📢 and tell the President of the European Commission directly that this is not acceptable and that we are waiting for them to #StopTheTrucks and #DoBetterForAnimals ➡️ https://lnkd.in/guFAcQDB #EU #EuropeanCommission #AnimalWelfare

In Uganda, the welfare of farmed animals has become a topic of concern as the nation strives to combat poverty. While tackling poverty is a crucial aspect of development, it is equally important to address the ethical treatment of animals. The presence of animal cruelty acts can serve as an effective means to safeguard the welfare of farmed animals, providing a balance between economic growth and animal welfare. In order to eradicate poverty without compromising animal welfare, Uganda must adopt and enforce stringent animal cruelty laws. These laws will ensure that animals are treated humanely during farming and slaughter practices, establishing guidelines for minimum standards of care. By implementing such measures, Uganda can demonstrate its commitment to sustainable development, where economic progress is achieved while valuing the lives and well-being of animals.

The recent replacement of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) with The Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) has introduced changes to laws regarding animal welfare. Notably, Sections 428 and 429 of the IPC, which addressed the killing or maiming of animals, have been combined into Section 325 of the BNS. This new section punishes anyone who harms animals with imprisonment for up to five years, a fine, or both. Additionally, Section 2(2) of the BNS defines "animal" as any living creature other than a human being. Formerly, IPC Section 428 addressed harming animals worth ten rupees, and Section 429 covered more valuable animals and cattle. The new BNS Section 325 simplifies and strengthens these protections, aiming to ensure justice for animals in case of mistreatment. #AnimalWelfare #BharatiyaNyaySanhita #JusticeForAnimals #LegalReforms #ProtectAnimals

Not what we hoped for but some progress in the right direction. The proposed amendment increases this fine to ₹1,000-₹2,500, whereas for a second offence, it is ₹2,500-₹5,000 or an imprisonment term of 6 months to 1 year, or both. Moreover, the amendment proposes the insertion of a new Section 11(4), directing the maintenance of a record of all cases registered under this Act at the district headquarters. With an overwhelming amount of research establishing the link between animal cruelty and human violence, it is crucial to include cases of animal cruelty in the crime statistics database. https://lnkd.in/gn4_KYqd

It has just been revealed that the WA Government intends to drop animal cruelty charges against the state’s largest live sheep exporter, just days before a long-awaited trial was due to commence. Emanuel Exports was charged with 16 counts of animal cruelty by the WA State Solicitor’s Office in 2019 following the public exposure of horrific conditions on several of its voyages to the Middle East, including the infamous Awassi Express, which led to the death of over 2,400 animals from heat stress. In our media release issued earlier today, Alliance Co-Director Dr Jed Goodfellow condemned the decision, saying: "The fact that the exporter responsible for such profound suffering will not be held accountable is an affront to justice." Federal Labor MP for Fremantle Josh Wilson told Latika Bourke/SMH that the decision to abandon the case “... appears to show that our regulatory framework doesn’t respond to the worst instances of animal cruelty". We couldn't agree more. Which is why we are calling for the matter to be referred to the WA Crime and Corruption Commission for immediate inquiry. This sort of concerning decision-making will continue to happen unless we remove responsibility for the administration of our animal welfare laws from the hands of agriculture departments and ministries. It's time for a #FairGoForAnimals. If you support Ministers for Animal Welfare, state Animal Welfare Authorities and a National Animal Welfare Commission making the decisions about animal welfare in Australia, then pledge your support for a #FairGoForAnimals today: https://lnkd.in/gtzYCsG9 https://lnkd.in/grPyE6G6

ANIMAL CRUELTY ‼️ Our community witnessed a horrific act of animal cruelty: a camel's leg was brutally chopped off. This senseless violence against an innocent creature is utterly unacceptable. As per Sections 3 to 5 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (1890) prohibit physical forms of abuse (beating, overdriving, mutilation, blinding, killing in an unnecessarily cruel manner) and negligence (starvation, thirst, overcrowding) The Animal Welfare Act requires that animals be treated humanely, but this incident shows we need proper implementation of the laws and regulations to prevent such incidents. We demand justice for the camel and better protection for all unique creatures. Let’s unite and push for reforms to implementation of the law. Animals rely on us to be their voice. Speak up, share this post, and join the fight against animal cruelty.
