HSMAI’s first ever Commercial Strategy Week Conference has kicked off with a general session on how to navigate the complex interplay of sales, marketing, revenue management, and distribution — the commercial disciplines — towards enhanced enterprise profitability. This first session set the tone on integrating the three disciplines to result in what is Commercial and was led by Lori Kiel, CHDM, Chief Commercial Officer, The Boca Raton Resort & Club, and Chair of the HSMAI Foundation Board of Directors, Gissell Moronta, CMP, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Atrium Hospitality, and Chair of HSMAI’s Sales Advisory Board and Stephanie Smith, CHDM, CEO & Digital Matriarch, Cogwheel Marketing & Analytics, and member of HSMAI’s Marketing Advisory Board. Some key takeaways included: Timing and strategy go hand in hand - if we wait to use marketing as a tool until booking, then it is too late. It is crucial that teams create a foundation of mutual respect across marketing, sales and revenue streams. The importance of tribe mentality: Commercial is understanding success at a much higher level than what you individually contribute. #HSMAICSC24
