Interested in understanding the effects of Kenya's health purchasing reforms on health system outcomes? 🇰🇪 📊 🏥 The findings of this narrative review, authored by Evelyn Kabia, Jacob Kazungu, and Edwine Barasa, suggest that the introduction and expansion of benefit packages for maternity, outpatient, and specialized services improved responsiveness to population needs and enhanced protection from financial hardship. However, access to service entitlements was limited by inadequate awareness of the covered services among providers and lack of service availability at contracted facilities. Canadians deserve timely access to health services whenever and wherever they are needed. The Government of Canada and Saskatchewan announced a funding agreement of close to $391 million over 3 years to help accelerate efforts already underway in the province to advance shared health priorities: improving family health services, supporting and growing the health workforce, improving access to mental health services, and modernizing health care systems with health data and digital tools. As well, to help residents age with dignity closer to home with access to home care or care in safe long-term care facility, the Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan signed another funding agreement of approximately $169.3 million over 5 years. Great to see another bilateral agreement signed this month. Yesterday the governments of Canada and Saskatchewan signed the Working Together Bilateral Agreement worth $391M to support and strengthen health care throughout the province. I was proud to see the Shared pan-Canadian Interoperability Roadmap guide this work, including targeted initiatives to modernize digital tools and health data. Specifically, it was great to see $17.6M allocated to advance modernizing the provincial health system, and another $145.3M allocated to support eHealth Saskatchewan. Upgrades to eHealth Saskatchewan will support the health IT operations and solutions, including virtual care and MySaskHealthRecord. These initiatives alone will address key gaps in information flow and accessibility, and ultimately create better health outcomes for patients.
