We’ve launched the second phase of our Tech Lending Community scheme with @Hubbub which tackles digital exclusion by providing second-hand devices and free O2 mobile data to those in need. Since its launch, over 750 people in need have been given access to their own second-hand tablet to get online via community centres and through temporary accommodation or refuge sites nationwide. In this second phase, we’re extending the programme to give homelessness charities, @Centrepoint and @Thames Reach, a total of more than 500 tablets and smartphones. We’re also continuing our device lending scheme for @Refuge, a charity which supports women & children who have experienced domestic abuse. All devices come with free O2 data from the National Databank which we set up with @Good Things Foundation. When did you last get some TLC? 👀 We’ve been spreading TLC - Tech Lending Community that is. The TLC campaign supports people in temporary accommodation services to get online. That means access to medical services, education and employment, staying in contact with loved ones and more. And now entering its 2nd year, thanks to £400,000 in new funding from Virgin Media O2... 🏡 Centrepoint, the UK’s leading youth homelessness charity, have joined as a new partner and will have 250 tablets set up to borrow in their supported accommodation centres. 🏡 Thames Reach will expand the scheme we set up in 2022 with 270 additional devices, and continue to support people at risk of, recovering from, or currently experiencing homelessness. 🏡 Refuge, a charity supporting women and children who have experienced domestic abuse, and received 250 tablets in 2022, will continue to receive funding and support to run their device lending scheme. All of these devices have been sourced second-hand by our trusty tech partner, Reconome promoting the re-use of tech as a way to reduce e-waste. Want to support our work around digital inclusion? The DG team have partnered with Digital Future Aotearoa, winners of the Hi-Tech awards 2023 for Best Contribution to the NZ Tech Sector. Digital Future Aotearoa have multiple campaigns they run to help make technology readily accessible to all young New Zealanders and prepare them for the transition to a #DigitalFuture. We continue our relationship with them on their Recycle a Device drive. What we have been asking for is donations of old laptops; #Mac or #Windows, which we could donate to RAD. Top benefits of this drive: -Less waste in the #environment -Teaching high school students how to repair and refurbish devices -Refurbished devices going out to those in need across communities and schools This #charity and this drive aligns 100% with Digital Garage’s values – Enabling development by helping the future generations of technology and giving back to our community, whilst also being environmentally conscious.
