About us

Hubbub is an award-winning creative charity that inspires action that’s good for the environment and for everyone. Since 2014 we’ve been forming unique collaborations across business and communities, and using behavioural insights, everyday language, and good design to make environmental choices desirable and more possible. Our campaigns meet people where they’re at, focussing on topics people care about that also have a big impact, like the food we eat, clothes we wear, green spaces and our communities. We show the collective power of people coming together to do what they can and use this as evidence to encourage government and business to make it easier for everyone to make greener choices too. So far, we’ve worked with over 2,630 organisations, supported 6,400 people to transform their way of living for the long-term, delivered over 180 campaigns and inspired more than 700,000 behaviour changes in 2023 alone. What this looks like in practice: - Habits for a lifetime: Collaborating with IKEA to create one of the world’s largest customer-facing behaviour change campaigns, Live LAGOM, supporting thousands of households to transform their daily habits, like cutting energy, food waste, buying less and repairing more. Launched in 2016, Live LAGOM continues to be central to IKEA’s strategy for supporting customers. - Championing communities: A thriving network of over 650 Community Fridges that have redistributed 18 million meals worth of surplus food within their communities. Supported by Co-op and Starbucks. - Making waves: A viral cigarette voting ashtray proven to cut litter by 46% and is currently featured across 43 countries worldwide. - Innovating always: £6.8 million invested in trialling new innovations and supporting community groups to replicate and scale proven initiatives. Ready to skip the disposable cup? We’re buzzing (and not just from all the caffeine 😬) to introduce Borrow Cup - a groundbreaking, collaborative returnable cup initiative for Glasgow, aiming to save over 100,000 disposable cups in 12 weeks. Led by Hubbub and reuse start-up Reposit | Returnable Packaging Platform | B Corp, we’re launching today at over 40 locations including Costa Coffee, Caffè Nero, Burger King and local cafes.  Why use a Borrow Cup?  🧋Over 388 million disposable cups are used every year in Scotland*   🧋 In Glasgow they make up over 30% of drinks waste in on-street bins**  🧋3 in 4 of us own a reusable cup, but only 1 in 3 use it at least once a month*** Enter Borrow Cup: a system to borrow and return a reusable cup from a cafe or restaurant, helping you skip the disposable even when you’ve forgotten your own reusable! Swipe to find out how it works -> A huge thanks to our funders and industry partners for supporting this landmark project: Costa Coffee, Caffè Nero, BURGER KING UK, Ecosurety, Bunzl plc, British Plastics Federation, KFC UK & Ireland, Keep Scotland Beautiful, Berry Global, Inc., Avery Dennison, Electrolux Professional Group and Biffa. Why didn’t your coffee spill down your trousers today? 🤔☕️ A)You were a hero and remembered your reusable cup 🙌 B) It was in a disposable cup likely lined with plastic to make it waterproof (also making it tricky to recycle!) 🥤 C) It was in a mug, at home, and you’ve had a lot of practise 😌 Did you know we get through 5000 paper cups every minute in the UK (Wrap, 2022)? And because their plastic lining means they can only be recycled via specific cup bins (often found in major coffee shops and fast food restaurants) most of them end up in general waste. Swipe to find out more, and about a solution we’re trialling in Glasgow➡️ P.S. If you’re not in Glasgow, why not get some shared reusable cups for your workplace, so your team can always grab one?

Yawn, yet another returnable packaging trial? Think again. Here’s how Borrow Cup is trailblazing returnable packaging. Together with Reposit | Returnable Packaging Platform | B Corp, we want to demonstrate how a collaborative model can improve the success of a returnable cup project, and understand how it can become environmentally, commercially and operationally viable. It may not be perfect (yet!), but we’re confident that it’s a big step in the right direction for a returnable cup initiative to reach those crucial tipping points that will enable it to expand further.  Want to get involved?  🧋Lucky enough to be in Glasgow? Grab a drink in a Borrow Cup, post a pic on LinkedIn, tag Hubbub and help spread the word.  🧋Email us to get our comms pack and promote Borrow Cup to your network.   🧋If your organisation would be interested in joining, supporting or funding Borrow Cup so we can scale further and save even more cups, we'd love to chat! So you want to change the world. You’ll need a pumpkin curry, a dash of oat milk, and a… cup? 🧐  In 2024 we ran three mass awareness campaigns, asking people to:   🥛 Switch dairy for plant milk and ‘Find Your Oooh Without the Moo’  🎃 Eat Your Pumpkin  ☕️ Bring Your Own Cup    But... what have any of these got to do with climate change? There’s a reason we do mass awareness campaigns – and it’s not just because we like a billboard. These campaigns start with a small easy action – but they’re about much more than that. Swipe to find out why.  Want to hear about the latest insights and behaviour change techniques from our work to inspire your own? ➡️ Sign up to our newsletter: https://lnkd.in/eGcTjb5S #BYOC #ThingsAreLookingCup#EatYourPumpkin #FindYourOooh

What do schools, prisons, and our homes all have in common? 🤔     They all present a HUGE opportunity to reduce food waste.  Our 2025 Eat It Up Fund grantees are tackling the issue head on with some incredible initiatives. Hubbub’s Eat It Up Fund, supported by Starbucks, has just awarded seven grants of up to £60,000 to support innovative solutions for reducing the 10.7 million tonnes of food wasted annually in the UK. Our 2024 grantees had some big wins: from Northampton Town FC Community Trust helping primary school kids reduce waste using the power of football, to The Wonki Collective revolutionising surplus food distribution through technological innovation. Eat It Up Fund’s latest cohort can’t wait to get started on creating change - swipe through to find out all about their projects.

Want to guess what we spent was £9.5 billion pounds on last Christmas? 🤔🎄  .  .  .  Surprisingly it’s NOT the amount we spent on chocolate and mince pies 😋 but the amount spent by British advertisers on Christmas ads.     Tis’ the season where we root (vegetable) for Kevin the Carrot or surprisingly sob at the John Lewis ad. 😭 It’s a huge moment for brands, with the weeks from Black Friday to Christmas marking the biggest sales window of the year.     But what if it wasn’t all channeled towards consumption? And instead had subtle nudges towards sustainable behavior and community action.     Hear us out...it wouldn’t be completely crazy! A couple of years ago, Co-op set their Xmas ad at one of our community fridges and O2’s latest Christmas ad celebrates their collaboration with Good Things Foundation, who are tackling the digital divide 🎅    So here’s how we’d (re)make a few of our own.    Hubbub 🤝 2024 Christmas ads

In 2023, the roast potato was named the nation's leading ‘must have’ when it came to Christmas Dinner. And who can beat that salty, toasty, golden deliciousness? This year for our Christmas party the Hubbub team went back to school! Don’t worry, it was more ho ho ho than ho-ho-homework – we went to cookery school! It’s a Hubbub tradition to default to veggie food for our office get togethers – from Christmas dinners to our annual away days, and everything in between.   You could call it ‘influencing the choice environment’ but we’d call it a simple way to make our Christmas dinner more sustainable.     Christmas dinner is already pretty plant-based so we kept the meal classic and tried something new – from roasted cauliflower to vegetable tagine! 🥕🫑 Have you tried default plant-based food at events?  It’s an easy change and takes a lot of the admin out of organising food 😎 Merry Christmas from Team Hubbub 🎄🎄🎄
