A new report from CASE, the consortium of 12 housing associations in the South East of which we are a member, shows the next government will face a worrying shortfall of 1.2 million affordable homes over the next decade. This deficit will be most acute in the South East, where 54,000 homes need to be built per year.
At Hyde, we’re playing our part to plug this gap. We’ve maintained our development pipeline over the next five years, and will be building thousands of affordable homes for families in the South East. But this isn't enough. Without government action, the symptoms of the housing crisis, like homelessness, overcrowding and unaffordability, will only get worse.
The report proposes a five-point plan to boost the supply of social homes and make a meaningful difference to the housing crisis.
