California tried to ban many forms of independent contracting using the "ABC test." California's Labor Secretary at the time is now Acting U.S. Secretary of Labor and DOL just released their rule on independent contracting. Surprise! There's a similar sentiment in opposition to independent work in the new rule too. Looking forward to joining my friends F. Vincent Vernuccio, Patrice Onwuka, and Liya Palagashvili to discuss the new rule and how we expect business relationships to change under it. #employmentlaw #selfemployed #independentcontractor #regulation
How will the Department of Labor's new Independent Contractor Rule affect independent work? Our Jonathan Wolfson is joining Liya Palagashvili and Patrice Onwuka to discuss. Link to register: https://lnkd.in/gBz9-apS Independent Women's Forum, Mercatus Center at George Mason University

Reading this article was eye-opening and deeply moving. It shed light on the extraordinary efforts of women workers in advocating for the International Labour Organization Convention 190 (ILO C190), a groundbreaking treaty aimed at protecting workers from gender-based violence and harassment (GBVH). The determination and solidarity of these women are truly inspiring. It’s heartbreaking to realize that 50% of women globally endure sexual harassment, violence, and discrimination at work. The article celebrated a monumental global effort, where women from all walks of life and various sectors came together with incredible unity to advocate for this convention. Their relentless campaigning led to C190’s rapid ratification by 44 countries, a historic achievement. Yet, there’s a palpable sense of urgency in the article, emphasizing that much more needs to be done to ensure safer workplaces worldwide. What struck me profoundly was the emphasis on including diverse voices in advocacy. This shows how important it is to join forces - you can achieve so much more together! The article also touched on the ongoing and evolving challenges, particularly the exacerbating effects of climate change. It’s distressing to think how climate disasters can heighten the risks of violence and harassment for already vulnerable workers, highlighting the need for continuous advocacy and adaptive strategies. 🌍💪 #GenderEquality #WorkersRights #herCAREER

We can't mention Labor Day without mentioning the vital role women play in the labor force. "As of 2016, women make up 47% of the labor force and are the sole or primary breadwinners for 40% of families with children, according to the Shriver Center." THIS is why we do what we do. This is why we started Trades Powered By HER! It's our goal to help level the playing field for women in the trades through support, education, and networking. Today and every day. 🚀 https://loom.ly/U4PnwXk #welding #OilAndGas #OilAndGasIndustry #construction

End Exploitation of Women’s Labor- It's Time to Prioritize Human Dignity I came across this video on LinkedIn, and it’s deeply troubling to see the ongoing exploitation of women’s labor. The video shows women carrying loads that far exceed their physical capacity—loads that could easily be transported using carts, wheelbarrows, or other tools. Watching this is a painful reminder of how much work still needs to be done to ensure dignity and fairness in labor practices. In the 21st century, where technology and resources are readily available, there is no excuse for practices that harm and exploit women, especially those who are mothers. It’s a call to action for us all to advocate for safer, more humane work environments that respect the limits of the human body and recognize the value of each individual. Let’s prioritize dignity, equality, and progress over outdated and unjust practices. #HumanRights #GenderEquality #WomenEmpowerment #DignityInLabor #EndExploitation #SocialJustice
