🌍📚 Foundational Literacy: Global Standards, Local Solutions 📚🌍 At Teach the World Foundation, we are proud to be part of the global push for Foundational Literacy. This movement has mobilized initiatives from the XPRIZE, USAID, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the United Nations. We strive to equip children worldwide (including children out-of-school and those in non-formal education) with core skills. Skills in Literacy, Numeracy, and critical life skills such as Social Emotional Learning and Executive Functioning. But as we bring these global initiatives to Pakistan, we’re also reflecting on the importance of local curriculum. Will the push for Foundational Literacy be an add-on or part of our local curriculum, and what gets included and what not? Do we compromise on certain parts of Literacy and Numeracy for example Digital Typing instead of Writing, less Numeracy for More Social Emotional? What is Foundational Literacy and how do we define it in Pakistan? How will we combine global knowledge with local wisdom—ensuring that every child, no matter where they are born, can unlock the doors to a brighter future. 🌱 Teach the World Foundation Pakistan Institute of Education - PIE Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training #FoundationalLiteracy #EdTech #Pakistan #GlobalGoals #LocalSolutions #SEL #ExecutiveFunctioning #Numeracy #AccelerateLearning #TTWF

Do you know what we did this summer? 🤔 Take a look at the #DigitalLiteracy Toolkit, developed during and after the DLF held in Tirana back in May. Let us know what you think.
Digital Literacy Kit was developed as part of the Digital Literacy Forum (DLF) that gathered a diverse group of local and international experts and formal and informal educators from eight Balkan countries for intensive “design thinking”-styled sessions that produced new programming materials targeting youth. The materials reflect four primary themes within the field of digital literacy: media & digital literacy, understanding social media algorithms, online behavior, and future-proofing through digital literacy. I am attending (virtually) a #NAACL2024 panel on the impact of LLMs on Education. Panelists are: Ekaterina Kochmar, Victoria Yaneva, Swapna Somasundaran and Karen Matías! Very good discussion and very inclusive of online participants too. You know what is the coolest moment (for me, at least) in the entire discussion (apart from it being an all women panel, that is)? During Q&A, one of the audience asked a question in Spanish, and another audience member translated it to the panelists (+ other non-Spanish audience, of course). Way to go, #nlproc! I, have a lot of questions and thoughts about this topic, of course, and there is a lot of food for thought in this discussion. #llms #education #edtech
