As we step into a new year, Team Humanly is fuelled with excitement and a deep commitment to continuing to champion what it means to be ‘human in human services’. At Humanly, we believe that the heart of any disability support service, and any organisation for that matter, lies in its humanity. So, we have a few questions… - How can we better support the individuals we serve by truly connecting with their unique stories, aspirations, and challenges? - What initiatives can we undertake to foster a culture of ‘diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging’ within our organisations? - In what ways can our services be more tailored to meet the evolving needs of those we exist to serve? Let's not just provide services. Let's create genuine, lasting human connections, and be the driving force behind positive change. We invite disability support services, and everyone, to share thoughts, ideas, and initiatives for putting the "human" back in human services. We’d love to see some comments below or use #BeingHumanInHumanServices to share your commitment to this transformative journey that we’re really passionate about😉. Together, we can make 2024 a year where we redefine what it means to be truly human in human services. #Humanly #HumanServices #DisabilitySupport #BeingHumanInHumanServices

As a Disability Support Worker, you play a vital role in helping people with disabilities live life to the fullest. But what truly sets quality support apart? It's all about choice and control. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁: Everyone deserves to feel in charge of their own lives. By offering choices, from daily routines to preferred support methods, you empower individuals and show respect for their autonomy. 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: Encouraging decision-making, even for small things, fosters a sense of self-reliance. This can motivate individuals to reach personal goals and build confidence. 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁: Every person is unique! Choice allows you to tailor your support to their specific needs, preferences, and goals. It's not a one-size-fits-all approach. 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁: When individuals feel heard and respected, trust flourishes. This strong connection is essential for effective support and a positive working relationship. Workplace ableism is still prevalent in our society, as faced by Celia Chartres-Aris. Not only can it play a role in recruitment, but discrimination or attitudes may follow once disabled people are employed. Having a disability can be isolating, and we must come together to listen to disabled voices on how to tackle this important issue and ensure as a society that we are welcoming to all, to ensure no one is left behind. https://lnkd.in/gxD-9rtU

Hey! I'm Rachael, I talk a lot about disability and inclusion in the workplace here on LinkedIn but here are some more facts about me: - I’m a multi-passionate business owner on a mission to prove that disabled people make the best employees and they deserve equal opportunity in the workplace. - One of my favourite things is travelling to new places and talking to different people coming to the same conversation with different views and perspectives. - Finding space for joy and practising mindfulness and gratitude is important to me, I have a screen-free day once a week and I journal- nearly- every night! - Writing has always been like therapy for me, giving me space to be creative and an accessible practice I can do from my bed if I need to. - I have an energy and pain disability, so I bring my lived experience as a disabled and chronically ill person to help companies become more inclusive, accessible and empathetic. - I love the colour yellow and sunflowers make me happy! Community is important to me and I would love to know more about you, so say hi and introduce yourself in the comments. 🙂 #DisabilityAdvocate #GetToKnowMe #Accessibility

Disability Pride Means we are not Hiding Who We Are. We need to destigmatize what being disabled looks like and centralize the human component. We must realize we are all perfectly imperfect and that’s what makes us all unique and capable in our own ways. Recruiting teams and leadership are overlooking an entire demographic of which 1 and 4 identify as. We need to approach how and who we hire realizing that disabled individuals once hired tend to work harder, be more dedicated and stay with companies longer than abled employees. It’s time to view disability through a more flexible and optimistic lens; it’s time to embrace the human in the employee experience. #disabilitypridemonth #deib #human

I built my business for this reason as a multitude of employers lose their talented and skilled staff through the acquiring of a disability, why lose all that investment when we can help you be disability ready. Ensuring that businesses are disability-ready is not just a moral imperative; it's a smart business strategy. By creating inclusive environments that support employees if they become disabled, companies foster diversity, innovation, and loyalty. Let's embrace accessibility and accommodation to empower every individual to thrive in the workplace. #DisabilityInclusion #InclusiveBusiness" Get in touch to see how our disability organisational cultural assessment can help.

The Superpowers of the Disabled Workforce: Resilience & Adaptability As someone living with a disability, every day presents a new challenge—and an opportunity. I’ve learned to approach each day with a mindset of adaptability, resilience, and determination. It’s not about what’s taken away from me, but what I can achieve despite it. Whether it’s managing fluctuating symptoms, overcoming new obstacles, or finding creative ways to problem-solve, disabled individuals bring these superpowers to work every single day. Resilience becomes second nature, and adaptability is ingrained in how we operate. We don’t have the luxury of rigid expectations; instead, we thrive on flexibility, creativity, and grit. Doesn’t every workplace need this kind of mindset? The ability to embrace what’s given, to adapt in real-time, and to succeed in the face of adversity—these are the traits every company seeks. But they’re innate to the disabled workforce. It’s time to recognize the strength and potential of people with disabilities in the workplace, not as an afterthought, but as a critical asset for growth and innovation. Let’s continue the conversation on how we can harness the power of resilience and adaptability to build stronger, more inclusive teams! #DisabilityInclusion #Resilience #Adaptability #DisabledAndThriving #WorkforceSuperpowers #InclusionMatters #LivingChronic #NDEAM

Making sure that Businesses and Customer Service Organisations are open, accessible and inclusive for all, and helping their Customer Service teams become Disability Confident
TO LIVE IN A SOCIETY WHERE ‘DIFFERENCES’ DO NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE! I have been out of the office for most of the summer caring for a sick relative and coming to terms with her passing. But thanks to ‘X’ I have been keeping abreast of disability news… and I can’t ignore what’s been going on! I can’t count the number of times that I’ve read on ‘X’ that Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson is stuck on yet another train! Not only that, I read only a few days ago where a person with a disability on a flight was forced to drag himself along the floor to the toilet as there was no on-board wheelchair facility. Come on, we’re in the 21st century - how are situations such as these still happening and on such a regular basis?! For anyone who has any kind of disability, their number one priority in life is to be as independent as they possibly can be. But how can we achieve this if services put a barrier in the way by not being reliable and consequently letting us down? Surely we have the same right to be able to travel and to be able to get to wherever we need to go and do whatever we need to do in exactly the same way as any other person in the country… don’t we? Oh to live in a society where differences DO NOT make a difference! Come on, let’s join together and make a campaign for change! Are *YOU* with me? #business #customerservice #publictransport
