We are thrilled to see the fourth of the seven Parramatta River Ferries in its new home in Sydney Harbour. ADEC Kedge Marine Surveyors and Naval Architects have been engaged to complete the surveys required to receive the Certificate of Survey (CoS) by Hobart-based builder RDM Constructions. The first ferry - named after Australian botanist, educator and D’harawal Elder Frances Bodkin - entered passenger service in April 2024. The following three vessels – named after John Nutt, Isobel Bennett, and Martin Green, have received the Certificate of Survey over the recent months. The remaining three ferries are expected to gain AMSA survey and be delivered to Sydney by mid-2025. We are particularly excited about the innovative design that allows these vessels to be converted to renewable propulsion in the future. #ParramattaRiver #SydneyFerries #MaritimeSafety
This week our fourth Australian-made ferry, the Martin Green, will begin sea trials on our harbour. Our new Parramatta River Class ferries are named after pioneering Australians in science and innovation - Frances Bodkin, John Nutt, Isobel Bennett, Martin Green, Ruby Payne-Scott, Norman Selfe and Jack Mundey. Martin Green spoke to 7NEWS Australia about what it means to have his work in solar panel innovation recognised with this new ferry.

🌊 A Dive Into Innovation and Sustainability in Florida! 🌊 Last month, I attended two standout events in Florida: the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) and Ocean Exchange. The back-to-back scheduling of FLIBS and Ocean Exchange created a seamless opportunity to explore both cutting-edge technology and sustainable innovation in one trip. They say nothing screams “highlight reel” quite like a classic photo montage - so here’s a quick video capturing the energy, innovation, and #BoatingLifestyle from the trip. 🎥 One thing that stood out was the Innovation & Sustainability Awards, which recognized exhibitors advancing sustainable practices in the leisure marine industry. A big shout out to Katherine O’Fallon and Phil Purcell for organizing this impactful initiative. For an industry historically associated with high-emission practices, the shift toward sustainability is a promising and uplifting trend. What I found most rewarding about these events were the relationships built - I’m excited to return to Florida and keep working together to shape a brighter future for our oceans. #LevelHydrofoils #Sustainability #MarineInnovation #OceanExchange #FLIBS

Shiraz to Shore Concept Plan launches today! 🚴♂️ 🍇 🏄♀️ The Hunter Region is poised to become a premier destination for cycle tourism with the proposed Shiraz to Shore, a 100km cycle trail connecting the picturesque Wine Country of the Hunter Valley to the breathtaking coastal beaches of Newcastle and Lake Macquarie. The trail includes the critical connector and much beloved Richmond Vale Rail Trail with its historic brick lined tunnels. Designed not only as a magnet for tourists but also as a sustainable transport link, this trail promises to be a beacon of regional connectivity and natural beauty. The expected benefits from the trail will: ✔ Support over 237,000 users per year in achieving an active lifestyle with health benefits. ✔ Stimulate business growth opportunities and over 200 ongoing jobs for local people. With support from NSW Government, we’ve worked with City of Newcastle, Australia, Cessnock City Council, Singleton Council and Lake Macquarie City Council to develop the preferred alignment for the trail, and financial modelling through a Business Case. We also developed a Hunter Cycle Tourism Strategy to identify actions for the region to take to attract cycle tourists, who stay longer and spend more in region, which means more jobs for local people.
