Dear job seekers, PAY ATTENTION! What is ATS? Applying for jobs through company websites often involves the use of ATS systems that automatically shortlist CVs based on specific keywords. As a result, it is advisable to include relevant keywords in your CV to increase the likelihood of passing the initial screening. However, reputable companies typically do not solely rely on ATS for candidate selection. Experienced Talent Acquisition professionals or recruiters often engage in passive sourcing, using Boolean searches on platforms like LinkedIn to identify suitable candidates. It is important to understand that not receiving a callback from recruiters is not always due to a lack of required skills on your CV. Other factors such as industry relevance, location, and salary expectations may also play a significant role. Recruiters are generally approachable, but they might not respond if they already have a strong candidate for the role or if they are overwhelmed with their workload. Additionally, with high volumes of applications—sometimes ranging from 200-300 per position—recruiters may review only a portion of the candidates. For instance, after reviewing 50 candidates, they might shortlist 10 and select 1, leaving many applications unopened. Hey #Recruiters and #TalentAcquisition professionals! When setting up job postings in an ATS, let's be mindful of when systems automatically decline candidates. It's a tough market right now and while yes, it's important to communicate if a candidate wasn't selected; it's equally important that they don't get the decline less than 12 hours from when they applied. It's super easy to set up decline emails to go out 1-3 days AFTER an application is received if they don't meet the minimum qualifications. The timing thing is imperative when you've got candidates who actually do meet the minimum qualifications and possess the preferred as well, but are being declined for other reasons. Let's do better in supporting folks looking for work right now!
