This week is Engineer’s Week, and we want to take a moment to celebrate all our hard-working engineers! Bet you didn’t know the Metroparks had an engineering department, and you might be asking why? The Metroparks have expert thought leaders in multiple departments including engineering, and it allows us to deliver really strong impacts to our region. From project design to construction and everything in between, our engineers work hard to fulfill our community needs and ensure that park projects and infrastructure are safe, up to code and built to last for years to come. Here is a glimpse into the work our engineers do on a daily basis and what makes them so unique. And shoutout to Mike Henkel, the Chief of Engineering Services who leads this team! #engineering #engineeringjobs #engineersweek #parksandrecreation #thoughtleadership

People often have misconceptions about what it means to work in Parks and Recreation. Things I've heard over my nearly 10 years in the field: 🌲 What do you do in the winter? 🌲 So do you mow grass too? 🌲 Well isn't that just playgrounds and stuff? 🌲 There can't be that many people working there? 🌲 That can't be a stable job - you should pick a different field. 🌲 Parks and Rec people do that too? 🌲 Don't you get bored? (HA!) 🌲 That must be a fun job! (The only one from the list that is actually true) Although working in parks and recreation IS a fun job, it is also a hard job. We do work year round, we do focus on making a difference and impacting the communities we serve - AND people don't realize that it take lots of different fields and experts to manage and run a park system. Everything that's needed to run a business - Finance, HR, Marketing, IT, Purchasing, Management, Warehousing, etc. - PLUS everything that's needed to design, build and maintain them - Engineering, Natural Resources Management, Planning and Development, Grant Writing, Programming, Maintenance, Operations and so much more. This video highlights one of those departments that most wouldn't think exist in park systems (and doesn't in all), but the Huron-Clinton Metroparks is fortunate to have dedicated in-house engineers behind every construction project with a focus on quality and serving our communities. Happy Engineer's Week to them and to all other engineers I know!

⭐ National Engineers Week ⭐ Laurence Lewis, Engineer & Senior Principal Planner, has been working in the transportation engineering field for nearly 24 years. While he focuses on the planning side now, he’s had an interest in streets and how people get around since he was 5 years old. What’s kept him interested throughout the years is the “diversity of issues and that transportation continues to change. It’s something that everyone cares about in some capacity.” 💬 Laurence’s favorite project is the East Bay Greenway Multimodal Project, which will construct an all-ages-and-all-abilities bikeway to connect users to a wide array of destinations around Alameda County, California. It began in 2018 as a planning project where we helped develop 88 recommendations and ideas that came from talking to the community and conducting a planning study, and now there are various segments of design in the works between us and other teaming partners. 🤝 Not only is it a favorite because Laurence gets to watch a planning project move incrementally through design and implementation, but because this project has included connections to community members, business owners, and advocacy groups. It will significantly improve safety and sustainability and support housing and job growth as the corridor transitions from an auto-oriented throughway to a multimodal community street. 📈 #NationalEngineersWeek #EWeek2024 #WhatEngineersDo

As promised here is the third installment of our talk last week. Again its principle is around everyone being involved as in construction, progress starts with questioning the way things have always been done. Challenging the status quo is essential for driving change and improvement. Here’s why it matters: Innovation: New ideas come from questioning old methods. Efficiency: Finding better ways to work saves time and resources. Safety: Improved processes can reduce risks and accidents. Quality: Embracing change can lead to higher quality projects. How can we do this? Ask Questions: Don't accept "because we've always done it this way" as an answer. Encourage Input: Everyone’s ideas matter. Listen to your team. Experiment: Try new methods and see what works best. Learn: Reflect on what changes worked and what didn’t. Everyone has a role in driving change. By challenging the status quo, we can build a better future for construction. #Construction #ChallengeTheStatusQuo #DriveChange #leanconstruction #willmottdixon

🌟 Exciting News from Radius! 🌟 Radius is thrilled to announce the successful energization of Cityline Block 3S in Sunnyvale by PG&E – and yes, the team did so on schedule, despite the challenging weather conditions in California. Cityline Block 3S is a downtown infill project, consisting of 800,000 square feet of new construction, including retail, 479 total apartments, 53 affordable housing units, and a one acre public park. Ever wondered how a large and complex project achieves PG&E energization ahead of time with minimal plan revisions? Here's the winning formula: 1. Stellar Project Team Assembly: Hats off to Thor Hoskins, Jeff Smith and the rest of the Sares Regis Group team for putting together and leading an outstanding project team; BKF Engineers, Radius Design, Helix Electric and an extra shout out to Wes Sims of Build Group. Their collaborative approach has been evident in every aspect of the project. 2. Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Our success story is woven with strong communication, dedication, and teamwork. Shoutout to the entire Cityline 3S team for fostering collaboration among various disciplines, ensuring a consistent flow of information and conflict resolution. 3. Top-notch Utility Support: We’d like to personally thank Pacific Gas and Electric Company and Industrial Power Engineer Visakha Bounlutay for her outstanding teamwork, responsiveness, and unwavering willingness to lend a hand. 4. Partnership with PG&E: Treating PG&E as a true partner has been pivotal. Special thanks to Matthew Ventura, PMP Kevin Douty and the PG&E New Business Technical and Advisory Committee for working closely with CBIA to streamline processes, resulting in vastly improved energization lead times. 5. Proactive Communication: Communication is the backbone of success. Another big shoutout to Visakha Bounlutay for her responsiveness and careful attention to the project's needs. And to Radius Project Manager Michael Cole, PE - your tireless efforts and strong communication skills are truly commendable. 6. Engineering Excellence: A round of applause for Radius Engineers Michael J. Eli and Franklin Dang, E.I.T. for engineering a rock-solid design that has successfully persisted through various challenges. At Radius, we believe in turning challenges into opportunities, and this achievement is a testament to the dedication and collaborative spirit of our incredible team. Here's to more milestones ahead! #TeamWork #ProjectSuccess #EngineeringExcellence #cooperation #complexity When PG&E arrives to light up a new project, they do so in force:
