Getting laid off can be a blessing in disguise because it gives us the time and space to start thinking about the bigger picture in our career trajectory, particularly around legacy building and work-life compatibility. Do your current career goals align with what you want to leave behind in this world? Consider how many years you want to work and how much money is enough. Then, ask yourself the following: 🍋 What are the financial milestones your career is helping you achieve? 🍋 What are the personal milestones your career is helping you achieve? 🍋 How many income streams do you need to: - Reach your career milestones - Reach your personal milestones - Maintain the lifestyle you prefer - Retire at the age you would like to Check out Part 1 of our Layoffs to Lemonade webinar and learn how you can take those first steps to turn a layoff into lemonade: https://lnkd.in/eQGAp4Gy

Measuring What Truly Matters 🎯 The percentages of layoffs keep ramping up... Though doom-scrolling feels tempting, I'm choosing to be an upbeat change agent who wakes each morning ready to hunt the good news and take optimistic action towards a brighter tomorrow! When organizational changes led me to be let go, I naturally felt rejected and pessimistic about my contributions. But with time and perspective, my viewpoint shifted. I realized employment was only one aspect of a fulfilling life. So I stepped back and asked - how DO we define personal success? By income? Titles? I discovered softer, intrinsic measures that resonated more to me - my character, how I uplift others, the memories I create. While professional milestones still have a place, a holistic assessment of life’s joys cultivates gratitude. My days are now filled with laughter, building connections, absorbing inspiration and paying it forward through random acts of kindness. I encourage anyone feeling discouraged to take an inventory of vital emotional nutrients - who and what feeds your spirit? How can you sprinkle more nourishment into each day? The ingredients that sustain us are all around. The smallest shift starts a ripple. Here's to measuring what truly matters - and spreading light along the way. And let’s remember - the shift away from discouragement does not begin with doom scrolling! 😉

Times are changing. Growing up, I was taught the right way to make a living was to start at the bottom of a company and work yourself up. So of course, I did the complete opposite. Writing has always been my passion. With a mix of stubbornness, naivety, some luck, and perhaps some delusion (with an extra dose of naivety), I flung myself beyond conventional walls and found a home outside of my comfort zone. I’ve worked for free, worked for cheap swag, made six figures, fell close to rock bottom after layoffs, worked again for table scraps, and so much more. In the past year, I’ve faced homelessness twice, and yet I’ve been luckier than most. All of it has taught me: 1. Time is more valuable than a title. 2. The corporate ladder is nothing more than a candle burning at both ends. 3. The only person who can truly empathize with your situation is you. 4. Stress can kill. Take care of yourself.

With so many layoffs happening, I wanted to share how my spouse and I are making it work while he job hunts. Living in a high-cost area amplifies the financial strain, but we're getting creative with our budget, cutting back where we can, and exploring alternative income streams. It's a test of resilience, but we're determined to come out stronger on the other side. Communication is key. We're openly discussing our financial goals, prioritizing self-care, and maintaining a positive outlook. We know this chapter won't last forever, and we're committed to supporting each other every step of the way. To all couples facing similar challenges: remember, you're not alone. Lean on each other, stay positive, and trust that better days are ahead. Together, we've got this! #supportingeachother #UnemploymentJourney #TeamWorkMakesTheDreamWork

Layoffs are never easy, we all know that. In one fail swoop I am losing my income, the team I trust, a culture literally like no other, my insurance, access to my very expensive insulin…. It’s a lot. I have stayed until the last day of business to help support anyone I can during this difficult time, put in dozens of job applications, and received only “pass” letters (if anything at all). I’ll say what we are all thinking: “The job market sucks right now!” I am seeing entry level positions with applicants with masters and doctorate degrees…how do you compete with that?? You. Just. Keep. Going. Keep applying. Follow up messages to the hiring team. Growing your network. Use every tool you have access to… then find friends to borrow tools from!!! But MOST importantly is Self-Care! You must always rake care of yourself first. Take breaks, drink your water, get adequate QUALITY sleep, and give yourself grace. Quitters never win, and Winners never quit!!
