The @hurlburtfield BHG. Why is almost every BHG presenting at Port? It's not the standard, but I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that the reason behind this trend is that it's easier to teach one presentation technique. The USAF Base Honor Guard program is in dire trouble. Staff Sgts (E5) are now the NCOIC, armorer, scheduler, trainer, vehicle custodian, and everything else. That's just ONE person who does it all at many bases. Just a few years ago a TSgt or even a MSgt was the NCOIC and SSgts were in each key position. The latest round of do more with less is killing the BHG program. Airmen do not spend enough time in training, they are forced to work their AFSC (MOS) and not dedicate time to being on the team that is supposed to perform congressionally mandated military funeral honors. ❌National bearer's socket is lower than Org bearer's. I agree 110%. Properly supporting transition is as crucial as onboarding new team members in your formations. Positive transition numbers should be measured somehow and tracked at BN and above as part of the regular marathon of slides.

I don't know who needs to hear this in the US Army chain of command, but "Any rank, enlisted or officer, may apply for SkillBridge. SkillBridge permits you to use up to the last 180 days of service to train and learn with an industry partner." (https://lnkd.in/e5c43869) I understand that acceptance into the program is mission-dependent, but it is not limited to first-term personnel. If you are someone in the chain of command, and stating that your policy is that only initial enlistees or first-term officers can utilize the program, I would like to know where on the chain of command chart you outrank the Secretary of Defense or DOD policy. If you're a general officer making this your installation/division policy, you need to seriously pull your head out of your fourth point of contact. (I'm looking at you 4th Infantry Division, U.S. Army.) If you are a brigade, battalion, or company-level commander, Command Sergeant Major, or First Sergeant, and you are not seriously having conversations with the individuals in your formation who are close to ETS or retirement about what their plans are, you are not leading effectively or taking care of these Soldiers. Soldiers a year from retirement should not be going on 9-month, or more, rotations to Korea or Europe and coming home with only five to six months left before they leave the military. Units that deem these individuals as "mission essential" have not done effective mission planning or personnel forecasting. Serious conversations need to be had with U.S. Army Soldier For Life about how badly you are screwing over the Soldiers in your command when you do this. Do better than this, #leaders. If you don't, I hope you only get three months to plan for your next career before you get out, and that you get an incurable case of sand fleas in an uncomfortable location. #takecareofyourpeople #veteranshelpingveterans #militarytransition
Incredible to understand how leaders fail to educate themselves on established policies that are implemented to support those individuals who have chosen to move on. Just because you have decided on a full career to retirement does not preclude you from taking care of others. You as a leader must read and comprehend not just relied on what others have told you. Trust but verify in the best interest of your people.

I still think it is amazing that these are younger people doing this work, and yet we typically won't trust them with other than entry-level jobs. Why do you think that is? In my opinion, we should provide veterans with better job opportunities because their military service equips them with valuable skills and qualities. Veterans possess discipline, leadership, problem-solving abilities, adaptability, and strong work ethics. However, there is a misconception that limits them to entry-level roles. This misconception may stem from a lack of understanding of their capabilities, difficulties translating military experience into civilian terms, and biases. 💂Today, 10th January 2024, a total of 14 Warrant Officers have been presented with their Officer Rank insignia by the Commander and Deputy Commander of the Armed Forces of Malta, after having successfully completed the "Late Entry Officer Course" and being commissioned as Lieutenants. They will now be continuing their service within various Units in the Officer Corps in the Armed Forces of Malta! 👉A late entry officer in the Armed Forces of Malta is an individual who transitions from being a regular soldier to receiving a commission, either in a combatant or non-combatant role, after completing a specified number of years of service in the Force. This transition marks a significant career progression, allowing experienced soldiers to take on leadership roles and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the Armed Forces. To facilitate this transition, the Armed Forces of Malta conducts the Late Entry Officers’ Commissioning Course (LEOC), which serves as a rigorous assessment platform for Warrant Officers aspiring to attain a commission. The LEOC is designed to evaluate the leadership potential, skills, and suitability of Warrant Officers for commissioned positions, ensuring that those selected for this career advancement are well-prepared and qualified to undertake the responsibilities associated with officer roles within the force. The course encompasses a comprehensive curriculum that covers both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, providing candidates with the necessary tools to excel in their new roles as commissioned officers.
