Director at The Leap - 25+ years experience of creating opportunities for people and places through social innovation globally, Ex UnLtd, Impact Hub Global Association. Grants Committee, Heritage Lottery Fund, North.
We should never lose sight of the idea that most fundamental to a peaceful and prosperous society is the fulfillment of the hopes, aspirations and dreams that people have for themselves, family, friends and what they value most. Culture has always been a vital cornerstone, bringing joy, meaning and a prism of opportunity to express and engage with our inner selves and the people and ideas that surround, shape and reshape us. At The Leap, like many funding and support organisations we want to help people and places to thrive - to enable ordinary people, to have agency, to do extraordinary things that can make the biggest difference. But very often, people don't want to do big things, to scale, grow or change systems, they simply want to do things that just really matter to them in places and spaces that are.most meaningful to them. That's why I believe that small amounts of money often alongside volunteers and some well targeted help is equally as important as ideas that can generate investment and create impact at scale. At The Leap, collaborating with Calderdale Council, we are doing just that with The Leap into Culturedale Awards, to give people who may not otherwise, in areas with the least opportunity, step forward with creative ideas, and have a go at making meaning and bringing joy through arts, culture and heritage. The chief of staff role has been growing in importance and popularity as the pressure on private and public sector leaders intensifies. To develop an empirical picture of the role, we analyzed publicly available data on approximately 250 chiefs of staff who have served in the role within the past eight years. The group is almost evenly split between men and women, and its members have worked at roughly 300 organizations around the world. Our analysis suggests that COS career trajectories and responsibilities vary widely, but eight broad archetypes emerge. https://lnkd.in/enFm7Zmz

Combining data and analysis with outreach and listening is so important...
As we begin to put summer behind us, I’m reflecting on conversations I’ve had over the last few months with business and community leaders across New England. One of the most important – and enjoyable! – aspects of my job is spending time listening to people who are directly engaged in different aspects of our regional economy. It’s always a pleasure to learn more about how different organizations and businesses are coming together to tackle local economic issues and improve their communities. I’d like to thank all of those who have welcomed me (most recently in Massachusetts, Maine, and Rhode Island) and shared their perspectives. I look forward to continuing to visit all corners of the Fed’s First District as we work together to promote a vibrant and inclusive economy that works for all. You can read more about my recent discussions on bostonfed.org. I'm thrilled to be attending the Creative Spirit US Gala on April 10 to show support for #RoadtoEquity. Were you aware that 2.2 billion people globally live with sight loss? Shockingly, only 0.26% of ads feature audio descriptions. The ongoing battle for inclusivity is crucial, beginning right at the core of your digital marketing strategies. How inclusive is your digital marketing strategy?
On April 10, Creative Spirit US will host our annual #RoadtoEquity gala at the NYSE, where we’ll ring the closing bell to support fair-wage employment for the neurodivergent community: https://lnkd.in/dsNhkXHx.
