🌟 Meet Lisa Oswald 🌟 She investigates public discourse in online environments and explores the crucial role of digital media for democracy. Lisa says: "Public discourse is really essential for any democratic system, because it is the basis for public opinion formation and eventually for political action. Therefore this is relevant for all of us. And at the same time, we see that it undergoes dramatic changes through the digital transformation." Curious about Lisa's research? Reflecting on the 2009 video featuring Susan Boyle, it's striking to observe the initial skepticism in the crowd's expressions, including Simon's, regarding her appearance and speech. Many seemed doubtful of her talent or singing abilities. However, Susan defied those expectations, bravely overcoming her apprehensions to deliver a remarkable performance. For anyone feeling daunted by their aspirations, Susan's story serves as a powerful reminder to persevere despite doubts. Take that leap, conquer your fears, and pursue your dreams with determination. Bear in mind, life passes quickly; grasp each chance to imbue it with significance. Whether your aim is to sing, pursue a career in medicine, law, or attain a particular degree or certification, maintain faith in your capabilities to achieve it. https://lnkd.in/e-yVDF7a

Great and *very gentle* intro to complex systems here. I feel like many people these days are experiencing frustration or anxiety because they see so many forces beyond their control. It might feel comforting to control the few things (we think) we can. However, like fish in water, we’ve always been part of systems and ecosystems; having a sense of all that enables us to appreciate and sometimes make the most of the places we find ourselves. #systems #ecosystems
In a couple of weeks, we will be hosting an in-person interview with Dr Luke Roberts, in this video he explains simply what complex systems are and how to engage with them successfully. https://lnkd.in/e9yJftZH Yasmin Medeiros

As we approached "The Bachelor" finale last week, we thought about how New Orleans' Kelsey Anderson had captured the hearts of many people across America and in Louisiana. And many of those people were likely audiences we don't often reach, if at all. So we tested something: What if we treated the "Bachelor" finale like a massive event like the Super Bowl? What if we looked for every opportunity to give audiences across the U.S. a new headline, and updated them about what was happening in real-time if they didn't have access to ABC or Hulu Live? The result: Led by Julia Guilbeau, we produced five stories in 24 hours, one of those being a live updates folder that reported what Daisy, Kelsey and Joey were up to on the finale and where things stood. That live updates story generated more than 21,000 page views in four hours, most of the traffic coming from search. In total, our coverage of "The Bachelor" finale overperformed, garnering nearly 100,000 page views. One thing I firmly believe is that news is a kaleidoscope of things and topics and types of stories and visuals, and that they all come together to create one exquisite piece of art that matters to communities. Intense, fast coverage of "The Bachelor" isn't silly mattered to many and has immense value, and is just one piece of the incredible work journalists produce at The Times-Picayune | Nola.com, including top-notch investigative, in-depth and enterprise reporting you won't find anywhere else in Louisiana.
