🚀 Texas Hydrogen Production Council Takes Center Stage 🌐💡 Texas established a Hydrogen Production Council, a promising move toward sustainable energy! The council had their first meeting in December of 2023. Under the legislation, House Bill 2847, the council is tasked with making recommendations to the Legislature on updates necessary for the oversight and regulation of production, pipeline transportation, and storage of hydrogen. The agency announced this week it has selected 11 council members to serve alongside Railroad Commission Chairman Christi Craddick. The first meeting was held in mid-December. “Hydrogen is blowing and going in Texas, to say the least,” Susan Shifflett, executive director of the Texas Hydrogen Alliance. The council aims to accelerate hydrogen's role in the state's energy future, focusing on production, infrastructure, and economic benefits. Today, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced $750 million in funding selections for 52 projects across 24 states to dramatically reduce the cost of clean hydrogen and reinforce American leadership in the growing hydrogen industry. Plug has been selected for nine awards for Clean Hydrogen Electrolysis, Manufacturing, and Recycling Activities under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. “Congress has enacted these policies and enabled these programs to advance hydrogen and fuel cells as vital components of the United States’ energy and climate strategy. These highly competitive, cost-shared programs will advance Plug’s fuel cell and electrolyzer manufacturing capacities, create good paying jobs in New York, and fortify the region’s leadership in the national clean energy transition.” said Andy Marsh, CEO of Plug. The first hydrogen fuel cell electric refuse truck has arrived!♻️🚛 Hyzon, New Way® Trucks, and Recology recently showcased North America's first hydrogen fuel cell electric refuse truck to key leaders, including U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Under Secretary David Crane, Governor Gavin Newsom, and Senator Alex Padilla. This event, hosted by the Alliance for Renewable Clean Hydrogen Energy Systems (ARCHES), celebrated the official launch of a $12.6 billion investment to create a Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub in California. With $1.2 billion in federal funding and $11.4 billion in public and private investments, ARCHES is developing a vast hydrogen infrastructure, including 60 fueling stations and over 165 miles of pipelines, to decarbonize heavy-duty transport. Hyzon CEO Parker Meeks emphasized the pivotal role of government and public-private collaboration in accelerating clean energy innovation. This first-of-its-kind hydrogen refuse truck marks a key step in decarbonizing the waste management industry and scaling hydrogen-powered fleets. It’s hard to overstate how great an opportunity Britain has to become a world leader in some of the emerging technologies of the energy transition – not least CCUS and hydrogen production and storage. Britain has amazing resources in the existing geological storage capacity created by the last 50 years of offshore oil and gas production – this is an incredible asset for the country, and if we utilise it correctly, could lead to the creation of thousands of well paid, unionised, UK jobs. We have plans to transform the Morecambe Bay gas fields for carbon storage and convert Rough into the world’s largest hydrogen store, and can't wait to work with the UK Government (both the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and HM Treasury) on how we can build on today’s announcement and rapidly unlock further investment and job creation in these exciting new industries.
