🚨 Euro NCAP releases the first Truck Safe programme test protocols 🚨 Today, Euro NCAP unveils the test protocols that will support the framework for its new Truck Safe rating scheme and lead the way to Zero Crashes on European roads. 🛣️ "Euro NCAP’s new Truck Safe rating scheme, the first of its kind in the sector, will enable a whole range of stakeholders in the freight industry to assess the safety level of trucks. Not only will this deliver enhanced safety for truck drivers, but also protect pedestrians, cyclists, and other vulnerable road users in European cities. It is not only about safety, as this programme intends to create strategic opportunities for those operators that invest in the safest vehicles. In creating a market for safety, Euro NCAP will encourage manufacturers and suppliers to innovate, further increasing the safety benefits of the scheme as the ratings evolve," states Matthew Avery, Euro NCAP's Director of Strategic Development. 🏙️ Test Protocols are released on Safe Driving and Collision Avoidance. 📢 Euro NCAP launches its new commercial vehicle rating scheme at #NCAP24 with support of industry 📢 Heavy trucks currently represent almost 1.5% of vehicles on Europe’s roads and are involved in almost 15% of all EU road fatalities. 🚚🚦 Euro NCAP believes collaboration is key and that transport authorities and the automotive industry across Europe will adopt and support the development of its city and highway certification models to ensure heavy trucks on European roads progress towards best-practice safety rather than just meeting minimum standards. 🛣️ “Vision Zero for road casualties will not be achieved without taking action to improve the safety of commercial vehicles. Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) systems have proven highly effective in reducing front-to-rear crashes and mitigating impact severity. According to Insurance Institute for Highway Safety / Highway Loss Data Institute vehicles equipped with AEB have seen a 50% reduction in front-to-rear incidents and a 24% reduction in third-party injury claims.
