👇 we lose more than a medical school class each year from physician suicide. The numbers are staggering, and we cannot continue to accept the loss of physicians, people that have diligently served their communities. This topic hits home for me personally, as during the darkest days on my military deployment I too had suicidal thoughts. We need to remove the stigma around mental health. Anyone can have a moment that can result in a devastating permanent consequence. I’m proud to being ambassador for the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes' Foundation. Let’s get serious about this topic. There’s some quick things that you can do for yourself and for your organization: ➡️Download the tool kit to remove intrusive questions relating to medical licensure and credentialing. Work with your medical staff office to ensure that they’ve adopted this language. https://lnkd.in/gswWgDtJ ➡️Encourage and if you were a leader, get your organization to pledge to be All In and adopt a comprehensive well-being plan to decrease the risk of suicide and beyond that ensure that healthcare professionals can thrive in your organization. https://lnkd.in/g5Kbp8Yd The research around what drives physician suicide is clear. We don’t need to wait for any more deaths. We’ve got fantastic organizations like Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes' Foundation that have done the work and continue to lead the change efforts that prevent physician suicide.❤️🩹 #physicianwellbeing #healthcaretransfornation #followyourheartline

Especially short in rural America
The current state of mental health care in the United States is troubling. Mental health organizations are understaffed. People are unable to access or afford mental health services. Solutions to the shortage of mental health providers are often as complex as the reasons behind it. https://bit.ly/4cBDp6p

Improving mental health provision in the UK should be a priority. It's disheartening to see the issue overlooked. I have personally experienced the devastating impact, from losing a cousin to suicide to seeing friends' struggle and children. It's appalling that mental health is often perceived as an excuse rather than a genuine health crisis. Politicians and society must recognize its severity and provide meaningful support. We need an end to ignorant statements like put out today by the Conservative Party conflating mental illness with sick note culture - it's not a culture it's an illness just as cancer or heart disease is. #MentalHealthAwareness #EndStigma
