One day I would love to have a sneak peak behind the scenes at Shopify. Who makes all of these servers, updates, integrations work at this huge scale? So much complexity is shielded from us, which is exactly the magic of Shopify. But this "veil of simplicity" spikes my interest to one day have a look behind scenes and understand what is actually going on. Today I was playing around again with metaobjects, metafields, form submissions. It's bunkers how extendible Shopify's data structures are becoming. What happened behind the scenes to make this extensibility work so seamlessly and beautifully? What additional servers had to be spun up? Where are these buildings full of servers located? Who is managing this technological marvel to make it work day to day?

Founder Uptek | Toptal Vetted Expert Shopify Dev | I Design & Build Shopify Stores that Boost Sales Upto 60% of Your Store!
I often encounter Shopify stores that are slow to load. And to my surprise, audits almost always reveal similar problems. So, to deal with them, I always go and check these basic things, first: - Images are optimized or not? - Unnecessary apps are running in the background or not? - I minify their code to remove unnecessary characters and enable caching to store frequently accessed data. Both these steps will make your store load noticeably faster. - A CDN stores your store's files on servers around the world, ensuring lightning-fast loading times for everyone. - As 70% of Shopify traffic comes from mobile so I make sure their store offers a seamless mobile experience. Ofcourse, there’s a lot more that goes into it, too. If you need help with that, I got you! I’ve opened 3 slots for Shopify stores that need help. From front-end design to technical backend, we at uptek can do it all for you! DM “Shopify” to know more! -Junaid Ahmed

On Monday Nov 13th, Shopify experienced a major outage, and all the 3,000,000+ stores went down for approx. 40 minutes! 😱 Since Shopify is a true Saas platform (all the stores are sharing the same core code), when something really bad is technically happening, the whole world can see it! 😬 By the way, the former huge Shopify outage was on June 8th 2021, when third-party provider Fastly went down for approx. one hour. Spotify, Twitch, Reddit, Paypal, Stripe, Github,... were also down at that time. No significant outage in 2022. No significant outage in 2020. Overall, in the last four years, 40 + 60 MINUTES of big outage. Including some minor minute-long glitches, my personal estimate is that Shopify has a 99.991% average uptime since January 1st 2020. Not too bad folks! 👏 And the best part of it is that when a problem is happening, you (merchants, agencies, system integrators) have nothing to do, Shopify tech team will fix it! Days, nights, weekends... it's their job! You can stay calm and relax! 😎 #Shopify #Uptime #Outage

It's a very difficult decision. A company that values it's employees has no difficulty with employee retention. This and more will be discussed at the GWIS 2024 event. #londonevents #london #summit #GWIS2024

I tried to recruit my friend to join Shopify again last year. He has been with his company for almost 7 years. I told him about the pay, the benefits, how amazing the people are and everything else. He just smiled and said: “I love my team, I’m doing what I love and I get paid very well.” That was pretty much the end of the conversation. It was almost like nothing else mattered. It’s hard to lure someone away from where they feel valued.

The moment has finally come. After spending the last five years talking about all the things Shopify should do better: this week’s Nebulab newsletter is an apology of Shopify’s outage, a reality check for anyone who thinks software is infallible, and—because I couldn’t resist—an explanation of what Shopify could have *actually* done better. I think it turned out great, so why don’t you take a look? https://lnkd.in/dizt4KF4 #ecommerce #shopify #enterprise #dtc #tech

One of the greatest things about the Shopify partner ecosystem is the level of integrity the community holds itself to. Over the last 10 years, I've seen dozens of Shopify partners (all segments) cut corners, rip-off other people's work (instead of being inspired by it), and attempt to bypass systems, both Shopify's and those of other providers. In most cases, they are younger/naive entrepreneurs who haven't felt their first hard slap in life yet. In life, and especially in smaller communities like this one, if you take short cuts, you may get away with it in the short term, but karma will get you. The word about a bad deed gets around our space fast, with or without social media posts. Many who get caught or called out by peers claim ignorance or deflect responsibility to staff/interns/designers... others except themselves, this is worse. Often the worst of them just fade away quickly. There are so many ways to game systems, Shopify has proven to us that they eventually close the gaps or relax on rules to make the ecosystem better for us/merchants and themselves - not an easy balance to maintain. What I know for sure is that the partner ecosystem is made up mostly of people with integrity who are keeping each other accountable, and who make sure the streets stay clean and the trash gets taken out. Just a reminder to act with integrity, play the long game, do the right thing...it takes years to build a reputation and just one bad move to destroy it. #shopify

Shopify Plus Expert - Senior Software Engineer - 🚀 Worked with multiple fashion brands in US/ EU 🕶️ solutions for online stores to maximize conversions
Everyone can't be a shopify developer, because in Shopify's ecosystem, you need to know everything in order to devise the solution to client's problem. It is not just about adding more code. Its about adding less code in the right place. Or else, you will be facing unexpected bugs in your online store, or your pagespeed rank will drop. #shopify #developer #shopifyexpert
