Another big thank you on the anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Commonwealth Study Conference, which opened in Banff one year ago. CSC2023 was a major leadership development initiative, taking place over two weeks, engaging nearly 300 members from more than 30 countries. More than 200 alumni volunteers from Canada and around the Commonwealth “gave back” to ensure the new members could their development experience.    The core planning for CSC2023 was undertaken by Canadian alumni of the CSC and Governor General’s leadership conferences, and was initiated by the CSC Canada Committee - starting before COVID. From establishing the theme, to setting guidelines for study tours, to developing pre-conference webcasts and video testimonials, their engagement was absolutely essential.   The impact speaks for itself, with a recent Conference survey showing 99% of the delegates describe CSC2023 as a valuable experience (75% saying extremely valuable), 94% describing the Conference as more valuable than other conferences and programs they have attended, and 88% saying the experience made them a better leader.    As Lead Director responsible for the global program, another huge THANK YOU from all CSC2023 participants to the CSC Canada Committee members, many of whom also gave their time as regional chairs: Marie Buchan, Catherine Dallaire, Stephen Dorsey, Marc-André Franche, Michael Hale, Lisa Browne, Beth Valiaho, Jason Heistad, Adam Janikowski, Sandra Laronde, Kirby Brown, Amrit Mehta, Kuthula Matshazi, Sarah Midanik, Charles Bierbrier, Pierre Verreault, Yanouk Poirier, Angela Talic, Steven Piepgrass, Ed McHugh, Aileen O’Rafferty, Sybil Wa, Matt Wayland, Bruce Willmer, Wanda Charles, Catherine Pennington, Dan Boulet.   #csc2023 #leadershipcanada #commonwealthleadersglobal #CSCglobalalumni

We are proud of our own Ina Kota and Silvana Zenere who contributed to the recently published Association of Executive Search and Leadership Consultants (AESC) report, "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Creating Competitive Advantage Through Fairness, Inclusion and Belonging." In its research, AESC asked business leaders to identify the highest impact DEI strategies in their organizations. The top three strategies are: 1. Foster a safe and inclusive environment. 2. #ASAE2024 is less than a month away, and I'm excited to connect with association colleagues in Cleveland for the ASAE: The Center for Association Leadership annual conference!! For those attending, plan to join me at 2:30 local time on Sunday, August 11th for my session: Redefining Collaborative Governance, Together Post-COVID, many associations are wrestling with how to capture the nimbleness of decision-making realized by necessity during the pandemic while maintaining their traditional governance models. Professional societies and trade associations with large, representative boards/houses of delegates are looking for ways to re-engage these groups in the business of the association. At the same time, overall member engagement is waning, and the next generation of professionals is struggling to find their place. Examining how leadership is structured in movements and other nontraditional organizational models may give us new options to consider as we forge ahead to the next frontier in association governance. During the session we'll explore together how ideas from community organizing and collective impact might be used to improve member engagement and participation in association leadership. #associations #strategy #nonprofitleadership #governance

Just completed another learning from UICC. This is particularly interesting for me, where this course look at some of the emerging leadership and organizational challenges of today including: Creating an environment attractive to talent Developing operational resilience  Planning in the face of uncertainty Embracing the opportunities of digital Creating innovations for lasting social impact Strengthening the collaborative fabric and culture within our organizations In today's organizations, effective leadership hinges on inspiring genuine commitment, to foster meaningful engagement, and ignite the passion that drives individuals to invest their best selves in their work. This is truly more when it comes to NGO, where our largest resources are from volunteers. Authoritative leadership falls short. The ability to strategize, coordinate and delegate to the right talent is paramount to a shared decision making and accountability, especially when it comes to leading an NGO. It entails a heavy load of responsibilities, especially considering our accountability for public funds. Am fortunate to have a great team of diversified EXCO and dedicated team which brings wide ranging of resources, check and balance and ultimately maximizing our ability to create positive change in the communities we serve. #UICC #BCWA #BeatCancerWithAttitude #continuouslearning
