The CUDA Annual Conference 2024: 'Guiding Principles for the Future' is taking place this Saturday, January 27th, 2024 at the Hodson Bay Hotel Athlone. We look forward to welcoming our Owner and Affinity member credit unions as well as guests, exhibitors, and speakers. A key objective is to have delegates develop a greater understanding that the future of their credit unions is influenced by their principle / value-based decisions. Therefore, it is critical to understand what those values are. They are influenced by our past and present values and behaviors. We want attendees to leave with a greater appreciation of how they make their decisions. This will help them with future decision-making and strategic planning as they seek to avail of the opportunities that are arising. We also want attendees to gain a greater appreciation of the skills that will be required for the future they choose. The Credit Union is an experiential brand and therefore winning and maintaining member trust is a critical factor. #creditunions #conference

One of the purposes of the NALP #annualeducationconference is to reconnect with others in the industry, especially for those of us in it for a long time. Last week, it was great to catch up with people who I have grown up with in the profession, who have been instrumental in my own career development, (looking at you, Debby, Michele, Emily, Victor, Yujin, Kathren, Carryn). And, then to be sitting next to Carryn at the Flo Recruit dinner! Carryn and I are part of each other’s law firm “origin stories” and it was fun to relive and share how we were trained in that bygone era, from use of significant digits in GPA calculations, the order the doucments appeared in the callback file, printing callback documents on the appropriate colored paper, the correct *full* names of law schools on the appropriately colored file labels, callback reports, FedEx’ing candidate files to Chicago prior to the 5:00 p.m. cutoff, arraning seating charts for recruiting dinners, etc. And, to top the week off, I get to see my oversized headshot at the business meeting, when I was recognized with Clara Solomon and Donna Gerson by our peers at NALP, for doing “work,” that I don’t really consider work. It is so fulfilling when I can connect people and, more importantly, advance other careers. And, to feel and hear the appreciation from the #aapi members, well, it makes it all worthwhile.  #nalp #nalpannual #legalrecruiting

I'm always thrilled to see my fellow authors recognized for their achievements, and have long been interested in how the lessons from the transformation of the American West in the pasr may be applied in the future by countries which today share similarities in terrain, (lack of) infrastructure, unique "cattle cultures", indigenous armed ttibes, and massive mineral wealth and agricultural potential! Putting CONTINENTAL RECKONING on my "must-read" list.

Starting the conversation to education and growth.

Do you like panel discussions? You know, as opposed to presentations. It's a sincere question. . . I often find that I'm disappointed that they are so rushed; you just wish you could hear more from every panelist. That said, I'm impressed by how much our 2024 Economic Outlook panel covered yesterday! In 45 short minutes, we covered: 🔹Why consumer sentiment matters so much for Ohio's 2024 economic forecast 🔹 Which jobs are most likely to be eliminated by AI 🔹 How Ohio is "portfolio state," with many smaller economies within the state, and how this relates to regional economic resilience 🔹 What Ohio needs to be doing differently with workforce development 🔹 Top 3 challenges in real estate financing and housing affordability (aka what would be needed to get us back to "normal" affordability of housing) 🔹 Top trends to look out for in 2024 for food and agriculture (this one was me!) I only got to one of the 6 trends I identified when preparing for the panel. So, I'll put all 6 trends into a blog next week! Working title for the blog is: 6 trends we're paying attention to in 2024 for Ohio-based Food and agriculture businesses. Thanks to Amanda Weinstein for being a rockstar moderator for the panel.
