I hadn’t realized how early in my career I learned the value of going back to the original challenge and to the ultimate end user needs to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and creating the intended impact. One of my first jobs out of university was working for a defence contract company. I started out in land systems, which meant that we worked on military tanks and light armoured vehicles. One of the projects I worked on was the Bradley—a vehicle that started being designed in 1963 as a light army vehicle and transformed into a combination of types of vehicles over 18 years—that didn’t address the initial need particularly well. The design phase lasted until 1981. The long design cycle and morphing into an armoured fighting vehicle were so grand that a movie was made about it in 1998, the same year I started working on the Bradley—Pentagon Wars. It went from a vehicle that would hold 12 people to one that holds 6. Reflecting on my 11 months in the corporate realm within the defence and aerostructure industry, I'm astounded by the remarkable growth I've witnessed in such a short span. It's been an incredible journey, one that has not only shaped my professional trajectory but also deepened my appreciation for the critical role our industry plays in fostering global security and stability.. In an ideal world, conflicts and the utilization of defence equipment would be obsolete. The overarching aspiration is to cultivate a safe environment, one where future generations can thrive without the specter of warfare looming overhead. Yet, the reality is that nations must remain vigilant and prepared, not for aggression, but to safeguard their sovereignty and dignity. Being part of a company dedicated to building and fortifying such an atmosphere, especially in India, fills me with an immense sense of privilege and pride. Our collective efforts contribute to a larger narrative of peacekeeping and defence readiness, ensuring that a nation stands tall in the face of any potential threats. Moreover, it's heartening to witness the evolution taking place within our industry.
