Carrefour has expanded its renewable energy initiatives by installing photovoltaic systems on the roofs of 13 stores in five provinces across Poland. The new installations, with a total capacity of nearly 650 kWp, are expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 448 tons annually. To offset this level of emissions, approximately 86,000 adult trees would be needed each year. bpost installs additional 618 #solar panels to boost carbon savings As part of its ambitions to halve carbon emissions by 2030, #bpost has installed 618 new solar panels on the roof of its #Brucargo European Mail Centre in #Zaventem, #Belgium. The new solar panels, installed in partnership with energy company Earth, have a capacity of 337MWh (36% of the site’s total energy demand) and will cut carbon emissions by hundreds of metric tons per year. Commenting on the installations earlier this year, Jos Donvil, CEO bpost Belgium, said, “At bpost we constantly strive to make our logistics processes more sustainable. Renewable energy is a must, especially given our ambition to slash our carbon emissions by 55% by 2030. Solar energy is a very important part of the mix, given the ever-increasing number of #electricvehicles in our fleet. The solar panels also meet some of the energy demand of our sites. Earth is a reliable partner that helps us achieve our targets.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dExDDBBu #Delivery #Logistics #eCommerce #Post #Parcels #Mail #Technology #ParcelPostEXPO #ukimediaevents

Businesses going green! 💚 🔋 More and more global brands are embracing #renewable #energy, making a real difference for the planet while earning public appreciation. Here are some great examples: 🍔McDonald's & Enel Group McDonald’s has signed a virtual power purchase agreement (#VPPA) to cover 100% of its logistics supply chain’s electricity with renewable energy. This move will prevent over 170,000 tons of CO2 emissions each year! ☕Starbucks & Nexamp Starbucks has been investing in renewable energy for years, and they’re backing Nexamp’s #solar projects in Illinois. These will generate over 40 megawatts of solar #power, supplying clean energy to local communities and Starbucks stores alike. 🍻AB InBev & Lightsource bp AB InBev Europe is committed to sourcing all its purchased electricity from renewables by 2025. Through a power purchase agreement (#PPA) with Lightsource BP, they’re generating enough solar energy to brew all their beers in the UK using clean power! It’s clear that going green is a trend, but it’s also a smart, sustainable choice for businesses. As more big names take this step, they’re helping both the planet and their own reputations.

Why do companies decide to generate their own electricity? Here are top motivators: - Cheaper energy, when compared to grid prices. - Price predictability. - Energy independence in a geopolitically unstable world. - The ability to lower and certify CO2 emissions and achieve sustainability goals. - Avoiding grid extensions while still being able to increase electricity consumption. But maybe a more interesting question that at Innovation we need to ask is: why do companies decide NOT to generate their own electricity and continue to buy it from the grid? Here are a few reasons: - they don't have a place to install solar panels... - the sun isn't always shining, which means their energy production won't always match their consumption. - they don't want to invest upfront. - most of the equipment they use is not electric, so there is no large gain in generating green electricity. One of the thing our Customer Innovation team is focused on is removing the barriers for adoption of self generation. We want to: - lower the cost of current solutions - find new cost effective ways for customers to generate electricity other than solar - create new energy sharing models and communities - discover cost effective ways for customers to store energy when they are over producing - provide locally produced energy as a form of value added service - offer state-of-the-art electrification solutions so customers can use locally produced energy instead of fossil fuels. As if this wasn't hard enough we want to do this at scale. The ability to deliver green solutions fast and with quality to a growing number of customers all over the world is an innovation problem in itself. One which is keeping us busy. #customer #energytransition #distributedgeneration

French renewables company Qair Group is set to supply clean energy to global retail group Carrefour from a large-scale solar plant in Italy. The 52 MWp solar PV plant in Italy’s Latium region was developed by Qair and is slated to come online by 2026. The offtake agreement will help Carrefour on its journey to slashing its emissions by 50% by 2030 and to source 100% of its electricity from renewable sources, in addition to a broader target to achieve carbon neutrality across the group by 2040. “Through this partnership with Qair, we confirm Carrefour’s commitment in developing sustainable solutions aimed at reducing our environmental footprint,” said Jean-Francois Dohogne, Chief Financial Officer at Carrefour Italia. “This contract will allow Carrefour Italy to count on around 75 GWh of renewable energy per year, the equivalent of powering 30 of its hypermarkets, in line with our ‘Benefit Corporation’ status and the specific goal of reducing our environmental impact.” Emmanuel Maqueron, CEO of Qair Italy, added: “We are delighted that our local and impactful solar project will contribute to the decarbonisation efforts of a group such as Carrefour. “The trust Carrefour has placed in us reaffirms Qair’s robust strategy in Italy. I thank the teams for their strong commitment, and eagerly anticipate seeing the first panels installed. Together, we are making significant strides in the energy transition.” #cleanenergy
