On Tuesday, January 16, 2024, Ed Yesu of Atlas Roofing Corp, will present an AIA HSW credited program titled “Fire Testing Requirement for Rigid Foam Plastic Insulation in Chapter 26 of the IBC” at the Citrus Restaurant in Milford, CT. The program provides a comprehensive overview of the fire testing requirements for rigid foam plastic insulation outlined in Chapter 26 of the IBC. The course will focus on six specific areas; important sections of Chapter 26, types of rigid foam plastic insulation, ASTM E84, NFPA 285, NFPA 286 and how the fire testing requirements impact the use of rigid foam plastic insulation for continuous insulation. #ConstructionIndustry #FireTesting #PlasticInsulation #Housatonic

Specifying internal wall insulation (IWI) with a risk conscious approach: We are getting increasing opposition from approved inspectors to specifying appropriate thickness woodfibre IWI backed by WUFI calcs if it doesn't meet the baseline u-value of 0.30 W/m2K. Ignoring the "is technically and functionally feasible" test, they would prefer we install dot and dab insulated plasterboard rather than a moisture risk appropriate solution. Is this a common issue people are experiencing, or do we need to find better approved inspectors? #retrofit #insulation #notesfromasmallpractice

Paragraph 301.2 of the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) requires all components in a plumbing system to be a third-party listed product. Having NSF 61 alone is not enough! A plumbing inspector could require the removal of any product that is not listed. To avoid a total redesign (and many headaches), we recommend using our UPC Listed Metraloop #expansionjoint. We have sweat end, press fit end, and press-ready end Metraloops with #UPC listing for potable water. Check them out here!

Concrete Waterproofing Systems (CWS) you WIN!!! Two concrete cylinders (one treated with CWS-100 and otherone untreated) were dipped in an ETP of a Textile Unit for 30 days. The pH was around 8.5 and temperature was around 60 deg. C. As witnessed there is no effect on the cylider treated with CWS-100 whereas untreated cylinder has started to degrade.

Did you know that there are no IBC code-compliant #perimeter #fire #containment (PFC) systems for curtain walls having combustible insulation? According to the IBC, perimeter fire containment systems must be tested and rated using the fire test method ASTM #E2307 which creates intense fire exposure. Common combustible wall insulating materials such as foam boards or spray foam, if used to insulate the curtain wall, or in the perimeter gap, would melt in just the first few minutes of the fire test. The IBC mandates that the perimeter fire containment for a curtain wall have a fire rating equivalent to the required fire-resistance rating of the floor slab. Available perimeter fire containment system listings from UL and Intertek, that provide ratings of 1 hour and more, all require that the curtain wall insulation be mineral wool. The mineral wool used must have been tested as part of a PFC system according to ASTM E2307, and must be certified by a 3rd party. Only suitable products should be used that have been certified for perimeter fire containment systems. For the safing slot (the gap between the floor slab and the curtain wall), the available system listings all require that the insulation must be certified mineral wool compressed to a specific percentage (as indicated in each system listing), or in a few cases, proprietary pre-formed PU foam containing intumescent (fire swelling and fire stable) additives.

Bidets! 🚽 ….. How many people are now feeling uncomfortable just reading the word? 😁 I don’t have an exact number but I know it’s too many. I’ve always asked myself: “Why?”. Why do people get so uncomfortable (or even scared) talking about bidets ? Do you know what we should all be scared of instead? Using one that’s NOT certified! 😱😁 #bidets #toilets #waterclosets #faucets #sinks #pipes #productcertification #producttesting #plumbingproducts
