Amit Bhatt, Managing Director for India at ICCT reacts to how #UnionBudget2024 would affect the EV landscape in India The government's announcement in the #UnionBudget2024 speech regarding the expansion and strengthening of the #EV ecosystem by supporting manufacturing and #charginginfrastructure is both welcome and much needed. Charging infrastructure remains a major barrier for EV adoption in India and this move will work to directly address this issue. Timely payment stands out as a significant obstacle hindering private sector participation in the bus operations sector in India. With the government's push to increase private sector involvement in the #ebus rollout, the inclusion of a payment security mechanism can be a game-changer for scaling up e-bus operations. Powering the Future: Leveraging the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme In the wake of the FAME II scheme's conclusion, the introduction of the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme 2024 by the Ministry of Heavy Industries is a beacon of progress for the electric vehicle industry, especially for us in the electric two-wheeler sector. With a focused outlay of Rs. 500 crore, the scheme is set to catalyze the next wave of growth in electric mobility. In addition, offering a substantial subsidy of Rs. 5,000 per kWh for electric two-wheelers, capped at Rs 10,000 per vehicle, this scheme could be a game-changer for both manufacturers and consumers. By covering both commercial and private registrations, the scheme ensures a wider adoption of electric two-wheelers across various segments of society. As a leading electric two-wheeler manufacturer, we are excited to embrace this scheme, which not only supports our vision for a sustainable future but also enables us to push the boundaries of innovation and affordability in the electric vehicle space. We are hopeful that we will be able to make the most of this opportunity to enhance our product lineup and contribute to India's electric mobility success story. #EMPS2024 #ElectricTwoWheelers #CleanEnergy #Innovation #EVMobilityScheme #SokudoElectricIndia
