The annual Australian Sikh Games took place a week ago in Adelaide with over 100,000 attendees. 100,000. Incredible. This is a significant figure, especially considering this isn't on the same organisational level as the AFL and in getting the same sort of government support. This needs to be celebrated, but I'm surprised there was hardly a mention in the media with attention given to the AFL's gather round (reported 70,000 interstate travellers) and also an upcoming British & Irish Lions tour (reported 56,000 tickets). A missed opportunity perhaps? Future locations for this event will need to improve with this getting bigger and bigger every year. The Gold Coast 2023 ASG games contributed est. $83 million to the economy and the City of Canterbury Bankstown could be the host for the 2025 Australian Sikh Games (ASG) (https://lnkd.in/gsP7Mgx7) It will be interesting to see what the Adelaide games did last week - Update: Apparently $20 million was injected into the South Australian economy (https://lnkd.in/gmfXpTWf) We should celebrate Australia's diversity more - huge social, cultural and economic benefits to be gained.

Integrated Agency Leader | Organization-builder | Integrating Strategy, Media, Creative and Production to achieve outstanding results
Thanks for this, Angus. As a proud BBDO alum I also winced at the recent news and can appreciate the wave of nostalgia it sparked. Working at BBDO was often a lot of fun. But I think Angus has the right perspective here. (And of course, being Angus Tucker, he writes it better.) The consolidation of BBDO, DDB and TBWA is an industry story. It's not Omnicom vs WPP or network vs independent. It's about your clients' ROI. If you can demonstrate that what they pay you results in growth, you can charge a reasonable fee, pay your employees well, invest in your business and survive.
My latest column in Campaign Canada. If the lesson from this is that "independents are good!" and "network agencies are bad!", we're missing the point. https://lnkd.in/gJQnyjV8

This month, I have the wonderfully talented Alexandra Kingcott as my #𝙛𝙚𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙨𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 feature, Founder and President of Shareworthy PR & Communications. Alex established Shareworthy PR & Communications in 2013 with quixotic ambitions for connecting artists with audiences. She spends her days working with clients like Broadway Across Canada, Comic Con, and Penguin Random House Canada to transform audiences into advocates, throughout Western Canada, through dynamic and engaging PR & media relations. Excitingly, Shareworthy recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, and Alex was recently named Top 40 under 40 by Avenue Calgary Magazine! At the end of the day, the easiest way to become her friend is to talk to her about musical theatre, but make sure you have time to spare. 🤭 1. What is the biggest lesson you learned in your first year of business? Don’t just plan for the worst, plan for the best. I didn’t financially plan to exceed my own expectations, and ended up paying for it. It was an excellent lesson (and one I’m still learning regularly) from a business perspective, but also from a perspective perspective - optimism is actually really good for you. Alex also shared with me her best piece of financial advice that she received, along with her favourite local businesses that she loves supporting. Want the 411?
