Bridging the Gap: How to Improve Communication in Product Development Imagine you're on a design team and the engineers speak a different language than the marketing team. This can make it difficult to ensure that a product meets both functional needs and user requirements. Krüger, Merlin Frederik; Stefan Zorn, and Kilian Gericke from the University of Rostock propose a method to improve communication during product development (via ICED23 Proceedings: DS 122). https://lnkd.in/gRBKeqHM Join the "Design is a Team Sport" movement at ICED25 Dallas. Excited to share the publication of my latest research paper titled "A Modular Ontology Modeling Approach to Developing Digital Product Passports to Promote Circular Economy in the Built Environment", co-authored with Annika Moscati, He Tan, and Peter Johansson. This study, published in Sustainable Production and Consumption, explores the use of #DigitalProductPassports (DPPs) to enable #CircularEconomy in the #BuiltEnvironment by adopting a modular ontological approach. The paper demonstrate the development of modular ontology using established and standard #OntologyDesignPatterns. This approach improves the scalability, interoperability, and reusability of ontologies, in contrast to those developed as a single monolithic entity. Grateful to all my collaborators and the experts from both industry and academia who contributed their invaluable insights. Special thanks to Vinnova for providing funding and to the companies that participated in co-production of the work: Fagerhult, Informationsbyggarna AB, and Plan B. Additionally, I am grateful for the support from the School of Engineering, Jönköping University. Check out the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/gpszrxSA

🗣️Rachel Pooley and Freddy Guemeni from the Innovation Factory, spoke at the academic event, “Turning Your Ideas into Assets” this week. So, what went down? 💡 There were practical tips and insightful talks from a variety of perspectives, including The University of Manchester's School Lead for Business Engagement for the School of Engineering and Holiferm CEO James Winterburn and NeuWave Technologies founder Jana Stella who discussed evaluating business ideas with patents and market research. Our head of IP services, Freddy Guemeni, also spoke at the event, highlighting: "For early-stage technologies, IP is your currency. The IP strategy supports the business model and can unlock a unique competitive advantage, premium pricing, or a lower price point." The overarching message from this event was the importance of clearly articulating your value proposition. Whether you’re communicating with future customers or people looking to invest, you need to be able to get your message across. It was so wonderful to see such a spirit of innovation amongst academics at the University of Manchester, all eager to bring their ideas to life. We have more events planned to support Engineering academics on their innovation journey. So, watch this space ! 👀 #IP #Commercialisation #AcademicInnovation #Engineering #IdeasIntoAssets
