What a ride! (About my non-stop, 29 years-long epoch and adventure with Novartis) [Part 3 of 3] ----- Just for fun, I wanted to leave you with some of my most relevant Novartis-related "stats", spanning the last three decades: - 29 years working for the group of companies under the "Novartis" umbrella, starting in June 1995, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. - 5 different companies/legal entities that employed me: Ciba Geigy, Novartis Argentina, Novartis Pharma AG, Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research, and Novartis Services (for Strategy & Growth). - 4 major functions where I worked: Development (Medical Affairs), Commercial (Sales and Marketing), Research, and lately, in the new "Strategy and Growth" Unit. - 3 (The power of three!) very different cultures where I lived and worked: Argentina (Where I was born and raised, which brought us Messi and the 2022 FIFA World Cup, our third), Switzerland (My beloved Basel, where part of my relatives lived a long time ago), and the US (Boston, Massachusetts), where I found my current "home" about 20 years ago. - Countless: It's the most important number of all. My "small world", which includes countless friends (of all sorts) and acquaintances as part of my "social/human network". Because of its sheer size, no bragging here, this message will probably not reach some of my contacts. I you become aware of someone that knows me, but didn't receive this message, I ask that you kindly forward it to them. As for next steps, I'm planning to take a couple of months off, before looking for my next job, to enjoy life without professional "structure", and to reflect, recharge and refocus my near-term future. I expect to transition to a new job within my area of expertise. But I'll also be focusing on preparing the launch of my first two startups, hopefully before the end of this year (Not directly related to the pharmaceutical industry). I'll keep you posted. Since I joined Novo Nordisk nearly 1,5 years ago, I have humbly been invited for several Coffee dialogues, both virtually brewed, and in physical appearance with both previous colleagues, friends and acquaintances asking for advice on how I made my move towards a completely new type of job, compared to the one I came from. My first words as an attempt to guide, is that it starts with a “Why?” Why would You want to change type of job or business and to what? Why, is for me the Golden Buzzer in many things, including understanding the deeper thoughts behind it. My own Why might have taken a bit too long to realize and ended up giving an emotional punch in the gut, but it often takes some time to secure the needed clarity. The good answer to your Why often becomes your guide, to what job should come next. With a crystal clear Why, I would set my GPS for “Where” can you see all your professional and personal capabilities matching the jobtype you want. Be creative and look between the lines. Ensure to build a solid bridge between past and the future job, easy to cross for the hiring manager. With a well lubricated and dedicated “My next move is close” machine, you start looking for the “Who?”, or your Maria as it ended up being in my case. Arm yourself with a solid dose of patience and call until you reach that person with the right and bold mindset, who sees your strengths in a clearer view, willing to bring the needed diversity into play to benefit the company. And don’t give up. We are fortunate to live in a country of opportunities and with a slamming Why, a Well orchestrated Where and patience in finding Your “Maria”, everything is possible. I am still filled with satisfaction for making the move I did, to a fantastic workplace, with tasks matching my Why, combined with a tremendous amount of fantastic colleagues. And with gratitude for the people who made it possible for me, to work with the things that motivates me beyond what I imagined.

Last week, I had the privilege of connecting with our brilliant Novo Nordisk Graduate Fellows from all over the world about their future career journey. I was blown away by the passion and innovation in the room, inspired knowing the future of healthcare is in great hands! Career journey advice I shared: 1. Self-add “Infuse humanity, kindness, and decency” as a mandate into every single job description you take on 2. Ikigai: Build your career not around titles, but around attaining convergence to your ikigai (learning ikigai was their homework) 3. Take the harder assignments — you’ll learn more because you’ll be out of your comfort zone 4. Oscillate between Strategy and Operational roles — build both complementary leadership muscles (even if you prefer one). Too long in Strategy, you’ll live in the clouds. Too long in Operations, you’ll miss the forest for the trees. 5. Stay on the innovation edge thru a mindset of “how might we”, not “how have we” 6. Today earns your tomorrow. You earn your future opportunities every day in every role through the impact you make. The company was establishing a Global Captive Center and I decided to move and join other Sanofians in the lovely city of Budapest. It proved to be such an incredible experience, in an amazing European capital. And not only did I participate in different initiatives with the Digital A2R Team 💻 I've joined, but I've also had the opportunity to lead, as a stretch assignment, the implementation of a major pilot project in Asia. ❕❕❕ You know what comes along with stretch projects in Sanofi? Thankful, energized and rather blown away…   I have spent the last 3 days on beautiful Bornholm with the DK-based leaders in Business Finance, reflecting on our purpose as leaders and persons, and how to become the best version of ourselves. A key focus of Novo Nordisk is to realize our purpose and while doing so, secure we grow our business and people in a sustainable way. Earlier this year, I have been fortunate to have a life changing development journey myself for which I am very grateful. It is very natural for me to want to give others a similar opportunity. Key observations:  1. It was fantastic to feel the trust within the team 🙏 2. The ability to show vulnerability was remarkable, and that is critical for us to change. 3. Our learning buddy setup was a key enabler for our development these days. 4. The level of  reflection was enabled by “being present”. We enjoyed being away from our digital devices and I believe that is needed to really focus our attention. I think many of us will experiment with this in the time to come (both in our professional and private life). 5. And within all the self-reflection, we had loads of fun and happy faces 😊   I am grateful to work with such a fantastic and talented team, and I can’t wait to see them develop further. Time flies! I've already spent three months in my new job position, and I couldn’t be happier. That’s why I want to take a moment to pause, recap, and share my journey with you. I have been in corporate since 2006. Over the years, I have experienced a lot, worked in many different positions, and learned so much about myself. Social Work is very diverse and demanding. As a result, I have strengthened my resilience and have learned to keep a cool head even in difficult situations. This experience definitely benefits me in my leadership position as a Brand Manager at Chiesi. 🙌 I started at Chiesi as a Key Account Manager, where I focused on designing product presentations and materials based on the doctor's needs. Since the beginning of this year, I have been the Brand and Area Manager of Neonatology and Critical Care. With this new position, I now lead a great team of four people, whom I appreciate a lot. 👉 Every new job or position brings its own difficulties and challenges. In my role as Brand Manager and Team Lead, I had to adapt to this position and figure out what kind of person I want to be on this journey. This always raises questions for me: Who do I want to be for myself? What is my vision of myself, and who do I want to be for my team? I am convinced that authenticity and equality are essential. Respectful interaction is a priority for me. If I show respect to my colleagues, I can also expect respect from them. My first 100 days at Almirall- It is good to reflect on the importance of the first 100 days in a new job and/or in a new company, not only because it allows you to leave the past behind but also to learn as much as you can about the new job. Personally, it means I am back to my hometown, so the change has been big personally and professionally 🌟 I’ve just accomplished this milestone at Almirall and I would like to share some thoughts: 👇 👉 First days is about listening and asking the right questions, meet lots of people and go through the on-boarding plan. I am very thankful to the many people who supported me on this journey and I gave even more value to the face to face interactions, you learn much more about the person! 👉 Company culture is a very ethereal concept, culture is what people think and says about the company, at Almirall I learn about the cultural transformation that the company is going through, and it is real, you feel it in everyone I meet.  👉 For someone like me with an international passion it is a privilege to work in an international Head quarter in Barcelona, and keep the interactions with different markets and people to run the commercial strategy.  👉 It is incredible to see how much knowledge there is in each corner, passion and dedication. What is most important? Having the highest market cap? Having the strongest sales growth? Or being the best place to work? If you asked a bunch of leaders which they preferred, you might get a few different answers or at least a few saying, “Why not all three?” And I would also say, all those metrics are important, but if I had to choose, I would go for best place to work. The foundation for sustainable success in business is built on a company’s culture and the engagement of its employees. Everything else, whether it’s innovation, outperforming competition, share price, growth, all of it is dependent on good people feeling good about going to work. After all, how can a company research and develop the most effective molecules, produce them efficiently, and market them to those in need better than its competitors, without having the most engaged employees across the value chain? Let me put it this way. I can imagine most colleagues wouldn’t know the daily fluctuations of our share price or our exact market share. But they will know at all times how they feel about the company and its future and if they’re positive, that can only benefit Novo Nordisk and our patients. That’s why I am proud today that we have once again been selected as the Best Place to Work in the World. It is just one ranking of course and these things are always debatable. But it is good to know that something I have believed for 31 years, that Novo Nordisk is a special place to work, has been validated by others from the outside looking in. A big thank you to all my colleagues who make our culture and “Novo Nordisk Way live each day through your passion and your dedication. This was yet another belated 100 year birthday present for our company!
