Join the EPFR team on April 23rd for a lookback at fund flows & allocations data trends in the first quarter of 2024. Investors kicked off the Year of the Dragon by shying away from equity funds with SRI/ESG mandates, seeking alternatives to China and steering money into AI and EPFR-tracked Bond Funds. Entering Q2, risk appetite for developed markets asset classes remains high, despite fears that the US Fed will not cut interest rates until 2H24, while fund groups dedicated to emerging markets are struggling to attract fresh money. EPFR’s CIO, Sayad Baronyan, Ph.D., and Research Director, Cameron Brandt, will dig into the data from 1Q24 and highlight areas that will play a role in shaping the market narrative during the second quarter. Our Managing Director Chris Clubb was featured in a recent article by ESG Investor discussing why multilateral development bank (MDB) data is key for emerging market investment. MDBs are being urged to release data on lending in the Global South to help investors gain a better view. The article highlights how making that data more accessible could be key in achieving UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Chris adds that borrowers in emerging markets tend to pay an interest rate premium: “This premium is because the data and information they have available for developed countries is a lot better. The difference between perceived risk and actual risk in developed markets is much narrower than in emerging markets, so borrowers in the latter need to pay a lot more because of that.” Read the full article: https://bit.ly/42C1JjQ #sdgs #multilateraldevelopmentbanks #emergingmarket #sustainabledevelopmentgoals #blendedfinance

ESG Reporting requirements on Multilateral development banks Renewed calls for data from the Global Emerging Markets Risk Database (GEMs) to be made transparent have been welcomed by industry bodies, including the World Resources Institute (WRI) and Convergence Blended Finance. Making that data more accessible would be key in achieving UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with the WRI saying that it could be “jet fuel” for sustainable investors.
