ICYMI: RBIJ joined Transform Justice and ten other criminal justice organizations in a letter to the British Retail Consortium on proposed new sentencing guidelines for assault of a shop worker. “After a mass shooting, your community will become a circus of media, well-wishers, gun violence prevention groups, those wanting TV exposure to promote their own organization for fundraising opportunities, self described “experts” also wanting media attention, and inappropriate calls for museum archiving for temporary memorials before family members are even buried. You will also be inundated with calls from from community non profits from other mass shootings offering their “help”. However, as parents, they don't have the right to access their children's social media data for possible answers, leaving them in the dark about why their child has died. #JoolsLaw One life lost is one too many. The 'Social foundation of Democratic Right' as a freedom's right to Say No to Crime The vicarious costs of sundering and upending others peace of mind is a terrible theft of that freedom's right in a young person's life. Human rights have been set out in numerous documents - eg Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948). Apart from prohibitions in law, the theft of others freedom is also corrosive on multiple businesses. Too much experience of GPs/A&Es and Rehabs can be an alienating experience; loss of trust in a decent society, despite the best efforts to protect and care. Below is a good story. Well done
