🚨 Atlantic Hurricane Season Update 🚨 Tropical Storm Gordon continues its westward journey across the central tropical Atlantic with winds up to 45 mph. The storm is forecast to weaken to a depression by Sunday, but gradual re-strengthening is possible by midweek. Meanwhile, an area of low pressure off the Southeastern U.S. coastline could potentially develop into a tropical or subtropical storm early next week. According to the latest from NOAA's National Hurricane Center, this system has a 30% chance of developing in the next 48 hours and a 50% chance of developing over the next 7 days. If this system becomes a tropical storm, it would be named Helene. Stay informed with updates from the National Hurricane Center and your local National Weather Service office as we monitor these systems closely. Current as of 7/29/24, 1:00 pm ET A reminder to keep an eye 👀 on the weather and potential tropical storms with rain ongoing 🌧️ and flood warning 🌊 issues in several communities across Puerto Rico. The NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration National Hurricane Center reported a tropical wave located in the central Atlantic Ocean. Although it has a near 0% chance of development in the next 48 hours and a medium chance (50%) in the next 7 days, it’s a good time to check-in ✅ on your storm readiness. We are entering the peak time for hurricane 🌀 activity, and Team IEM wants you, your family, and community to be safe and prepared this season. Here are some tips: 📃 Important Documents – Keep your documents (e.g., medical plans, insurance, banking information) safe and in a waterproof box. 🚗 Vehicle – Keep your car full of gas at all times. ⛽ This is of utmost importance in case an immediate evacuation is ordered. 📻 Battery or hand-crank radio – These items can be lifesaving during an emergency as they allow you to have the most up-to-date information in the event of an emergency. 📱 Alerts – Subscribe to weather and news alerts, and always remember to use reliable sources for official updates. ℹ️ For other safety tips this hurricane season, 🔎 check out these resources: 🌐 Hurricane Season from Negociado para el Manejo de Emergencias y Administracion de Desastres ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dfyvJ8s7 🌐 FEMA Ready Hurricanes ➡️ https://lnkd.in/g9UmBrh #AtlanticHurricaneSeason #HurricaneSeason2024 #IEMHurricaneReady #PrepareWithIEM #TeamIEMtips #2024HurricaneSeason #emergencymanagement #hurricaneseason #hurricanes #hurricanepreparedness #Atlantichurricanes #hurricane #tropicalstorm #emergencypreparedness #hurricanepreparedness #preparedness #BeReady #BePrepared #HurricanePrep #hurricanestrong #forecast

The 2024 hurricane season in the Atlantic Ocean kicked off on Saturday. Yet, activity in both the Atlantic and Pacific has been relatively quiet so far, with no storms to monitor as of yet. What's likely driving this lull? In our latest blog post, we discuss factors such as the Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) and how it is strongly tied to tropical cyclone activity, especially early on in a hurricane season. We also look at some climate factors at the end of the post that suggest the Atlantic is likely to be highly active come peak season. #hurricaneseason2024 #hurricaneseason #hurricanes #mjo #climate #climatescience #elniño #laniña #enso #insurance #reinsurance #emergencymanagement #riskmanagement #riskmodeling #catmodeling #catmodelling #riskmodelling #hurricaneoutlook #hurricaneforecast

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has been wrestling with more efficient ways to convey hurricane risk with visual graphics, such as the "Cone of Uncertainty". Per the post below on the Atlantic States Weather page, the NHC is looking to update this product, as evidence suggests that the current version is not well understood (or is misused) by the general population. Similarly, one of the primary goals of a consulting meteorologist is to translate the science of meteorology into language/visuals that the layperson or "non-meteorologist" can better comprehend. Whether communicating with attorneys, adjusters, insurance companies, or a trial jury, a Certified Consulting Meteorologist (CCM) has been vetted by the American Meteorological Society (AMS) for the training, experience and skills to explain meteorology/climate, and their impacts, in such a manner that can be more easily understood, and hopefully, helpful in a civil liability or property damage case. #ConsultingMeteorologist #Forensicmeteorology #weatherexpert #forensicinvestigation #nhc
Graphics from the National Hurricane center (NHC) may look different in 2024 as the NHC tests replacements for the 'Cone of Uncertainty' product. Read more about the impetus for the possible change here: https://lnkd.in/e_rJSQEt. #nhc #noaa #weather #hurricane #hurricaneseason #hurricaneseason2024

Category 4 Hurricane Beryl headed toward Mexico, could threaten chem ops along US Gulf Coast #Hurricane #Beryl, already a major Category 4 storm, is making its way toward Mexico, but it remains too early to tell where it will ultimately make landfall. Beryl is now the earliest Category 4 storm on record in the Atlantic. The previous earliest was Hurricane Dennis on 8 July 2005. The US National Hurricane Center (NHC) said as of 1900 GMT Beryl was about 60 miles (100km) west northwest of Carriacou Island with maximum sustained winds of 150 miles/h and moving west-northwest at 20 miles/h. The early activity in the Atlantic Ocean is in line with forecasts calling for a busier-than-usual hurricane season. The US NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration is predicting the greatest number of hurricanes in the agency’s history. The prediction of 17-25 named storms is the highest ever, topping the 14-23 predicted in 2010. #ICIS #hurricane #Beryl #Mexico #US #Gulf #NHC #NOAA https://lnkd.in/dkTk-mXg

2moIt's also typhoon season out here in the Pacific. I currently have the privilege to live in Okinawa, Japan. It's fascinating to see their response to typhoons and the mitigation measures they have like most buildings being made of concrete.
