Each year, many summer camps deal with the challenges related to retaining quality seasonal staff • Retaining quality employees remains a challenge for many seasonal industries, including summer camps.   • Summer camps need to replace more than 40% of their seasonal staff each year. • Staff turnover affects both financial and organizational performance. • Organizations must spend additional funds to recruit, select and train new staff while also compensating for the loss of valuable institutional knowledge and its impact on customer service and organizational efficiency.  • Summer camps need to understand what motivates employees to return if they want to recruit and retain the desired staff. This month, FBO's CareersNOW! program is excited to offer two interactive online sessions exclusive to food and beverage processing employers seeking guidance in addressing key labour issues at their organizations.   As part of a special CareersNOW! Employer Mentorship Series, Food and Beverage Ontario’s Jason Crawford and Meat & Poultry Ontario’s Luis A. Your Superior's version:-- In a company where you are engaged ,how hard you work with fully honesty & dedication.Unless your Superiors support you ,your efforts go unnoticed. whatever they communicate to the management is taken to be correct.On the other hand management never questions them ,but simply removes the employee without any fault of his.This is the corporate world where all sort of buttering takes place,good people are removed without even being questioned once. How many times action has been initiated against those high end members.They are paid well,stay in posh hotels,throw all sort of tantrums , quarrel with drivers,room boys etc. Companies forget that ground level staff only bring laurels to the company ,not those seated in those AC rooms.

It’s only been a month or so since the last time I posted about being given a gift for helping someone out. And I’ve come into the office today to more alcohol-free beer, a card, and some flowers from someone else in the operations team. I should be sharing the beers out because it’s the company, not just me, that does the things that help our people. On a broader cultural level, we strive to be a business that supports our people to become the best they can be and that means many things, but it also involves being a flexible employer. However, to make flexibility work we’ve found that reciprocity is a core tenant of our culture—you get back what you put in. Otherwise, flexibility can morph into a culture of entitlement. To avoid a culture of entitlement and nurture a flexible company, our recruitment focuses on selecting people who share our values and are prepared to support the business, our business partners, and ultimately our customers. And that is evident from expressions of gratitude when we do help our people out. We really do have an amazing bunch of people at QDOS.

🗣 In a recent conversation, going 'back to the floor' initiatives came up, and we chatted about the various formats that this initiative can take, along with the benefits that they can bring to a business and its culture when done regularly 🤝 Gaining an understanding of what the front-line teams have to do to deliver the brand or proposition to the guest, profitably, is an obvious benefit for support teams, as is driving awareness, communication, and internal customer relationships of the support teams within the front-line teams 🍔 Further to this, the initiative can provide opportunities to share knowledge and experience, to learn and give feedback, to do reward and recognition, and to have fun, showing that you are human [job role/title aside]. I never once managed to beat any of the team in making any product quickly and to spec, and they loved the fact [that I tried] and that I couldn't either, giving way to ongoing banter and challenges! 🏑 I draw similar benefits from my volunteer work at Wakefield Junior Hockey Club, where I lead a team of volunteers to provide food and drink each weekend for the training hockey teams and for the Yorkshire Youth Hockey League out of the container pictured below - affectionately known as 'The Cabin' 🛖 Shifts vary between 4-8 hours, serving customers a range of breakfast, lunch, and snack items, along with hot and cold drinks, maintaining margins, driving transactions through speed of service and customer service, and lifting average spend through upsell 📈 It's a weekly reminder of the physical and mental skills [as a team member, and as a team] that are required to organically grow a business through transaction and spend channels 🎊 Over the past 2 seasons we have managed to grow the business, year on year, through both transaction and spend channels, providing much needed funds for encouraging Sport in the Community and Sport for All through the financing of outreach activities, outreach scholarships, team member reward and recognition and end of season celebrations 👩🎓 I often relate and reflect these weekly learnings into the day job, and whilst it commits a chunk of time each weekend to deliver, I just wouldn't be able to replace the benefits it gives me and the business I am in ❓️ How often do you get back to the floor, and how do you connect the benefits of these initiatives in your day-to-day work? #restaurants #hospitality #qsr #fastcasual #OpsEx #grabngo #foodtogo #operationsexcellence #operations #opentowork #operationsdirector #OperationsGuru #projectmanagement
