Celebrating Women's History Month, we're shining a spotlight on Shelly Olmstead, IES's Director of Quality and Training, for her significant role at the 2024 BICSI Winter Conference. Shelly joined a panel discussion, offering insights into industry perspectives and their impact on project success. When asked about avoiding discrepancies between designs and completed work during quality audits, Shelly emphasized the importance of early involvement of the Quality team. She stated, "Involving Quality from the beginning of your project ensures they are engaged throughout the process. Allowing them to catch issues and changes as they arise instead of after the fact will ensure that everything will align in the audit. They can also act as the liaison to work with the designer and the customer to devise compromises when necessary. Your quality person is also a technical expert, so involving them at the earliest stage can streamline communication."
