We are delighted to introduce IFB Solutions' new plant manager for our Asheville facility, Alina Garcia Ravelo. Alina, who was born and raised in Cuba and has a master’s degree in industrial engineering, is the first person who is blind to fulfill this role. “Being legally blind myself, I feel like my employees can relate to me and I can relate to them," Alina said. "I understand what they are going through, because I’ve been through the same. You have to work twice as hard to reach your goals, so every accomplishment means so much more. This year, Belden’s Richmond, Indiana, plant is anticipating double-digit productivity improvements, grounded in a richer understanding of its operations and equipment. What has led to this great expectation? It was the result of a collaboration between the Richmond Plant operations team and The Belden Customer Innovation Center (CIC). The operations team knew they needed a more automated way to understand the Richmond factory’s operations. There was a lot of old equipment and there were concerns about connecting it to improve operations—or whether it could be connected at all. That’s when they reached out to the CIC team for help. The CIC shared some of their devices and the Richmond team shared some of theirs. Together they discovered that they could connect devices to get the data they needed.
