A significant part of our discussion revolved around the health and vitality of mainstream political parties. The insights offered by the NDI emphasized the critical role that strong, responsive, and inclusive political parties play in a functioning democracy. 🇿🇦 In #SouthAfrica, general elections are being held today. Yet, #IndigenousPeoples in the country (collectively known as Khoe-San) are still denied full participation and recognition of their rights, especially when it comes to #landrights and traditional leadership. 📢 In the contemporary post-apartheid era, the legacy of the “Coloured” designation means the Khoe-San remain invisible communities within South African land struggles. 🚨 In May 2023, the Constitutional Court delayed the implementation of the Traditional and #Khoisan Leadership Act 2019, thus continuing to leave the Indigenous communities outside of the formal traditional #leadership system, restricting their access to justice and to participation as a collective. 👉 Read the full article in The Indigenous World 2024: https://bit.ly/3QvGNXe #WeAreIndigenous #humanrights #SAelections24
