🌍 Join us virtually for the 2024 The Lancet series premiere on #AMR! The global fight for better health outcomes and decades of progress in treating infections are at risk due to antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) will hold a high-level meeting in September 2024 to discuss this present and growing threat. To bolster the momentum gained from this watershed moment in the battle to control AMR, a Lancet series was commissioned to provide crucial data, evidence, and policy recommendations to serve as the cornerstone for a U.N. resolution addressing AMR. In the series, Aislinn Cook, Prof Koen Pouwels and Prof Mike Sharland and co-authors touch on the current burden of AMR, the importance of expanding antibiotic access and innovation, and the need to promote the establishment of global targets and get politicians on board. To commemorate the series, One Health Trust, FIND, IFPMA, The International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions (ICARS), AMR Action Fund, Africa CDC, Global AMR R&D Hub, and Infectious Diseases Society of America are holding a symposium, gathering authors, experts, policymakers, and civil society to discuss AMR's impact, the importance of antibiotic access, and the push for global targets. While the in-person event is invitation-only, catch the live stream to be part of this vital conversation! The World Health Organization’s (WHO) high-priority meeting on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) today during the United Nations General Assembly draws much-needed attention to the increasing threat of AMR to public health worldwide. We take pride in being one of the few companies investing in new antibiotic therapies targeting high-priority, drug-resistant pathogens such as Acinetobacter baumannii and the more common Neisseria gonorrhea to improve patient outcomes and reduce the spread of disease. For more information, learn about our partnership with the Global Antibiotic Research & Development Partnership (GARDP) and our joint efforts to decrease the spread of drug-resistant gonorrhea worldwide. https://lnkd.in/dxaQpTS9

Before the Olympics end, we have an Antimicrobial Resistance (#AMR) Olympics meme for you. :) AMR should be trending, too, as one of the world's greatest global health crises. In the 2024 The Lancet Series on AMR, written by a group of experts brought together by OHT's Ramanan Laxminarayan, the authors show that pushing interventions we know, including universal water, sanitation, and hygiene access (#WASH); childhood vaccines; and infection control and prevention in hospitals could stop 750,000 deaths related to drug-resistant infections every year. AMR is an urgent issue, but we can take action and make a difference now! Ahead of the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting on AMR, the Lancet series proposes global targets to reach by 2030 of a 10% reduction in deaths from AMR by reducing misuse of antibiotics in humans by 20% and in animals by 30% (10-20-30 by 2030) to ensure action is taken globally to address this growing problem. With the G7 Leaders Summit currently underway in Italy we are very excited to have contributed to the Think7 Italy Communiqué "One World, One Health. A Strategic Vision for a Resilient Global Health System"! In our section of the brief on Antimicrobial Resistance we focus on the need for investing in improved global infrastructure for R&D and access to effective antimicrobials, as well as increasing surveillance capacity and infection prevention and control. Our high-level recommendations include: 🔹 Strengthen global antimicrobial R&D and access infrastructure through increased push funding, particularly through Global Antibiotic R&D Partnership (GARDP) and CARB-X. 🔹 Support and provide funding for innovative mechanisms, institutions and models aimed at ensuring timely access, registration, manufacturing and procurement of antimicrobials (such as the SECURE initiative). 🔹 Commit to a coordinated approach to financing and supporting pull incentive schemes, considering global needs for R&D and access. The full brief can be accessed here on the Think7 website: https://lnkd.in/eDEC87TT We have also put forward additional details for each of our recommendations on our own website: https://lnkd.in/etBx3JeV With many thanks to my collaborators on the brief for your valuable input and guidance. ARMoR recently had the opportunity to contribute to the Think7 Italy Communiqué "One World, One Health. A Strategic Vision for a Resilient Global Health System". In our section of the brief on Antimicrobial Resistance, we discuss how G7 leaders have made commitments to tackle AMR since 2014 but that we are yet to see these commitments translate into the policies needed to ensure patients can access effective treatments. We highlight the need for improved global infrastructure for R&D and access to effective antimicrobials, as well as increasing surveillance capacity and infection prevention and control. Our high-level recommendations include: 🔹 Strengthen global antimicrobial R&D and access infrastructure through increased push funding, particularly through GARDP and CARB-X.
