RANK Group PLC (LSE:RNK), the owner of Grosvenor Casinos and Mecca Bingo, was one of the worst-hit companies during the pandemic and its turnaround process more challenging than first expected. Investors will get an insight into its road to recovery when it provides first-half results on Thursday, 1 February. Casino visitor numbers have struggled to recover as quickly as hoped, while regulatory headwinds and cost pressures also loom over the company. Recovery began in January 2023 and is expected to continue into the new year, with a key target for the group being building revenues back up to £7 million per week.   One tailwind the group will be hoping for is the swift introduction of gambling reforms, which were announced in April last year. Kindred Group plc Group, along with Swedish operators AB Trav och Galoppand and Svenska Spel, has announced the continuation of their joint initiative to publish responsible gambling (RG) metrics for the Swedish market. Launched in autumn 2022, this collaboration aims to raise public awareness and promote a fact-based dialogue about high-risk gambling behavior. Every six months, licensed operators report key metrics to the Swedish Gambling Authority. These metrics include the percentage of customers contacted due to problematic gambling, the effectiveness of these proactive contacts, the average reduction in gambling among contacted individuals, and the share of contacted customers who choose to self-exclude for periods of less than and more than six months. The goal of publishing these metrics is to inform Swedish stakeholders about high-risk gambling behaviors and evaluate the effectiveness of preventive measures implemented by operators. By promoting transparency, the initiative seeks to enhance trust in the gambling industry through balanced regulation, technology, research, and human intervention. In the first half of 2024, Kindred’s report showed that the percentage of contacted customers who reduced their gambling after proactive contact slightly decreased to 76.85%, down from 78.19% in the second half of 2023. #casino #igaming #gambling #gamblingnews

Svenska Spel, Kindred Group plc and ATG have published an update on their responsible gambling activities in Sweden in H2 2023. The three major Swedish operators reported positive results in July and continued to strive to reduce harmful gambling in the country throughout the second half of the year. Svenska Spel, for example, reached out to 1.9% of its customers during the second half of the year. Following the intervention, 74.8% of those players, who initially exhibited markers of harm, reduced their gambling. Additionally, 49.7% started making lower deposits than before. In addition to those who moderated their gambling, 9.4% of all contacted players opted to self-exclude for six months or more. Svenska Spel added that 3.7% of the contacted players excluded themselves for a longer period of time. It is certainly not an easy task to launch a successful casino in the gambling industry, since the competition is fierce. To put things into perspective, since the beginning of this year, over 200 casinos have closed, and more than 400 have opened. At Casino Guru, we consider new, time-untested casinos riskier than established companies. We label new online casinos as "fresh" since we don't have enough information about them yet.
