The CAPES Signature Project tests the effectiveness of @JasprHealth, a patient-facing tablet-based application, in the Emergency Department (ED). A chat bot guide patients through a suicide risk assessment, a safety plan, and lethal means counseling all while waiting for care. Jaspr also provides access to a menu of skills videos to manage distress, and a library of racially and culturally diverse, inspirational videos of people with suicide-centered lived experience. After leaving the ED, the patient can access their safety plan, skills videos, and shared stories on the Jaspr at home app. First, we are testing if Jaspr improves suicide outcomes under ideal conditions by comparing patients who receive routine ED care (n=335) to those who receive routine ED care plus Jaspr (n=335) when given by research staff at UMass Memorial. Then, we’ll test how well Jaspr improves outcomes when given as part of routine clinical care at four EDs in Colorado and Ohio (N=28,000).

There is a lot to gain from first-in-human trials, however embracing greater complexity is essential for successful outcomes. That especially applies to the questions of ethics and considering what risk means for the participants involved. Check out this opportunity to gain a better understanding of the issues.
Join us on February 8 for a viewing of the The Human Trial. Hosted in partnership with Clinical Trials BC, this documentary aims to increase awareness among the health research community around the complex considerations of conducting first-in-human clinical trials. Following the screening, there will be a live panel discussion with clinical trial leaders Dr. Florian Kuchenbauer, Marie Francois-Goyer, Lisa Elser, Dr. David Thompson and Dr. Tony Traboulsee. Panelists will answer key questions raised in the film and offer diverse perspectives about clinical trials. Everyone is welcome – share with your families and friends who are interested in learning more. Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 (likely more) girls and women world wide. Average diagnosis for this very painful disease is 7-10 years. For me, it was 15. Although this disease is becoming more recognizable, there are still many people, especially adolescents, who are unaware of what this disease is. The Endometriosis Foundation of America strives to promote education and advocacy for all those affected. One way is through their ENPOWR Project, a "youth-centered initiative focused on delivering endometriosis education and menstrual health resources to adolescents in grades 9 through 12." Please see the video below about how you can help bring this much needed education to our adolescents in schools in your community, as well as, how you can volunteer to become an Endo Educator. Other Endometriosis resources can be found at enfound.org https://lnkd.in/efmJtWtu
