Not Identifying a Niche - Would you like to listen to a radio station where the broadcaster bounces from one topic to the next? You would probably want the radio station to stick to a consistent theme throughout all of the broadcasts. Similarly, if you do not commit to a niche, your listeners are less likely to be loyal to your radio station. They do not want you to keep rambling about anything that pops in your head.

Radio, along with TV, remains the most trusted medium in Europe. Each of the last 12 Eurobarometer surveys from the European Commission saw radio come out on top.
The survey found that radio was trusted by 56% of the population on average, compared to 49% for both TV and press. In the UK this figure rises to 61% of people expressing trust in radio.

As Capital and LBC turn 50, and Heart turns 30, commercial radio is once again flying high adding an additional one million weekly listeners according to the latest RAJAR results.
At the end of 2023, which these results reflect, commercial stations continued to provide positive, light-hearted and entertaining content and the listeners are enjoying it. Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden is the biggest commercial radio breakfast show in the UK and the Greatest Hits Radio Network now reaches more than 6.5m listeners.
These latest RAJAR results once again demonstrate how powerful radio is when it comes to uniting, entertaining and engaging communities.

MAJOR SETBACK FOR FUTURE DAB RADIO IN SWEDEN
DAB radio without any government support. Politicians reject demands for #DAB expansion for public broadcaster. FM will remain as major platform for #radio.
The Public Service Committee, with representatives from all eight parties in the parliament, has now submitted its final report to the Minister of Culture. On many issues there was disagreement between the government side and the opposition. However, not regarding the question of a DAB expansion for public broadcaster Sveriges Radio (SR). All parties remained cold-hearted to break a 30-year stalemate regarding the DAB system as an alternative to terrestrial #FM radio, at least for public service. The Message and the Broadcaster.
Last week, my head of programs was on the Evening drive shift and asked that I stand in for her. This is something we do as broadcasters,take the place of another if they will be unavailable.
Her major program on that shift is a political show called "Prime Time". I had a good outing and stayed back for the Night show which I anchored primarily.
After the shows that day, I paused, thinking through how I switched tones, moods and personality broadcasting that day.
Every Program has its style, mood and tone and following these, ensures the success of the program.
of course, you have to prepare for your programs, but the messenger must sound the part.
