Producing potent cells and determining potency becomes a focus as FDA-CBER publishes Draft Guidance in Potency Assurance for #celltherapy and #genetherapy , providing “additional considerations for assuring the potency of products that are undergoing rapid clinical development…..You should design your manufacturing process with the goal of consistently producing potent lots”. Of note, “We encourage replacement, reduction, or refinement of animal usage in assays”. If they truly want to move away from animal models, the next Draft will hopefully focus on production and evaluating potency in environments that mimic in vivo, #tumormicroenvironment .
