Poland is still in the bottom of the ranking. Such disappointing. 😣

While of course it's something to be proud of, Western European countries shouldn't be that complacent about the respect of LGBTQ+ rights in isolation. I mean, it's not the same to be a queer person in Spain that a queer, migrant, black or brown, poor person in Spain. There's still lots of work to do.

This type of reports is a very important lobbying and statistical tool for advocating for LGBTQIA rights. But unfortunately, it does not necessarily measure public sentiment. For example, Croatia is much more advanced legally than Poland (my motherland), but I think the "felt homophobia" (in like on the street sense) is higher. On the other hand Germany (where I live now) is very high in the ranking, but you just need to go outside the big city to feel the same as in Poland. In fact, even in Berlin I had a person spitting in front of my feet and commenting on me. Of course, this is all anecdotal evidence, but it shows that these reports reflect only part of reality.

It's said that it's society that makes the law evolve. I think it is. And yet, while Belgium has a very high score (78%), living there as an homosexual, I don't find that the society is in tune with this score. 🤔

Hopefully the UK will improve its position with an imminent new Government. Too many culture warriors trying to attract right-wing voters rather than doing what is right.
